Some fine October weather as we sail towards Santorini
Santorini

What an awesome break....

It was not exactly the typical week spent on a Greek island. We arrived on Halloween in the late afternoon. In Santorini, the tourist season winds down at the end of September. October is their shoulder season, and at Halloween the place basically shuts down for the winter. It took us a lot longer than usual to find ourselves a place to stay. We were harrased (as usual) when getting off the boat by the hotel touts, but we didn't get a good vibe from anyone. We eventually picked a guy in town who was a little more persistent than the rest. We followed him down a few alleys to a private house with the upstairs bedrooms converted to hotel rooms. The place was nothing special, but the price was incredible: 15 euros a night!

With our cheap accomodations booked, we spent the next five days doing little more than eating, catching up on blogging (we were way behind at that point) and eating more. The food was great and the restaurant owners were happy to have anyone in their places, so free wine and desserts kept us coming back

Neither one of us likes the shower head that you have to hold in your hand the whole time... a little rope and a few messy test rounds later - voila! a normal shower....
island was a dead zone....empty beaches, shuttered stores and quiet streets. It suited our state of mind perfectly. When a single cruise ship pulled into port and spewed forth its load of loud, shopaholic tourists trying to maximize their fours hours of g, we were glad not to be there in the high season....

The last full day was spent touring around the whole island on scooters (Andrew's first time on one) and generally having a ball...
