We left Paris on the Tuesday morning - the flight was at 1pm so we originally planned on taking the train out to the airport but our host at the bed and breakfast informed us on the Monday night that there was going to be a train and taxi strike in the morning and that we should definitely try to book a taxi. So we booked one for 9am which would leave plenty of time for any traffic delays. Tues morning we are sitting around having a coffee and at about 8.20 she gets a call from the taxi driver saying he was outside and that he had come early due to the strike ha - it ended up only taking 40 minutes to get there which is less than what we had been told is the usual time - so another few hours spent sitting around an airport - in hindsight should have just waited for the train (as they still run just a lot less of them) as the "private" taxi cost 75 euros. Never mind - the flight to Athens was only about 2 and half hours - the meal I have to say was the best airplane
food ever! Quick trip of 20 minutes to Mykonos and we got here at about 8.30 at night. Felt like a long day for two pretty short plane trips!
It is now Friday arvo - just kicking back in our hotel room as I am keeping an eye on the Freo footy final online - unfortunately they are getting a butt kicking.. oh well it was always on the cards against Geelong. We are so impressed with Greece - would definitely be planning on coming back and having a better look at more islands and Greece in general. The weather has been really good - pretty hot around 33 degrees - a little bit windy today but the water here is so clear and nice - is a bit like the water at Rotto. We hired a bike on the first morning but they only let tourists take 50cc ones - so it has been a bit of a struggle - I have had to get off and walk off a few hills but trust me that's not such a bad thing! Food is very much what we like to eat - have had greek salads with every meal pretty
much - had delicious moussaka and fresh seafood. Feels much lighter then the meals we have been having in France and the UK. Breakfast is included with our hotel and is pretty good - they have their fresh greek yogurt and honey which is yummy. The room is pretty basic but clean and traditional ie white and blue! It is only about 50m from Ornos beach which we have discovered is probably one of the nicer beaches on the island. We spent most of yesterday there - thought we would have gotten a bit burnt but came out of it ok - must be no hole in the ozone layer here like in Perth! Trust me, it is pretty entertaining at the beach - lots of Europeans with no hang ups about showing off their bodies! Some good and not so good sights lets just say haha. Had my birthday yesterday - went into Mykonos town for lunch - arvo at the beach then tea in Ornos - was very nice and relaxing. Today we took the scooter for a bit of a tour around some parts of the island we hadn't been to yet - so arid here -
we figure they must get some rain in winter a bit like our climate in WA as there are some dead weeds etc - not much else but.
Tomorrow we are back into Paris - get back in around lunchtime - hope to do the evening dinner cruise which is meant to be really good, before we get the train on Sunday morning down to Gourdon for the start of our bike tour.
