Overlook
Pretty view on the way to the fortress Please note, this is slightly out of order. This came after Athens.
Our tour grooup lost 5 members that wwere going on a greek island hopping tour and we picked up 7 more. We left athens and drove through where Sparta used to be to our night stop. We were staying in Parga which is a beautiful coastal town. It has a port, two beaches within walking distance, and a castle. We had made pretty good time so we got there about 330 in the afternoon. Th common consent was to go down to the beautiful beach. I was assigned the room with 3 new people...which made me the only original trip member to be rooming with a new person, and I was with 3! I said something aout it to the guide, and he said it was cuz I had the personality to make them feel welcome and pull them into the group. What a compliemnt!
Ihad fully intended on going to the beach, but when I went downstairs to wait with everyone....right next store were some dune buggies for rent! I went ove just to see because Ive never been in one, and went to
ask the price. The argentinian on the trip (everyone on e trip was Aussie or kiwi except for us lol) came with me and we ended up haggling down to a pretty good price. A couple came wi us and we had the 2 buggies for all 4 of us for 2 hours for 35 euros plus some money for gas. So for less than 20 American, we had the buggies! He gave us a Map to go off roading to get to a private beach!!! It took about 40 mins to get there. We went in a mini highway, though s town with tight and curving roads, through a creepy red riding hood forest, down gravel paths winding throguh tall grasses and dangeerously close to the edge, all the way down to a dead end that we had to walk the short rest of the way. Worth it! It was amazing. The water was a gorgeous blue and theere was no one else theree! Wee had the whole beach to ourselves. It was so quiet and beautiful.
The water wads a little chilly at first, but felt fine once I was in it. We played there for awhile
and headed back. I did a pretty good job navigating considering that it was a hand drawn map, everything looked the same, I've never been there and how fast the Argentinian was driving, LOL! We did miss a turn at a fork because wee weren't sure, but I remember taking a pic there so I checked the camera and wwe wwere able to sort it out.
We made it back to our beautiful hotel Paradise in time to make eveeryone jealous. I grabbed a gyro which happened to be the best one I've had on this trip. It was so juicy! What's confusing though is that I though lamb ws the normal meat to use, but the only options have been pork and chicken. Ah well. We grabbed some drinks at a store because we were going to go have a sunset party ath the castle. Our beautiful sunset party happened to coincide with one of our trip people's birthday! It happened to be the girl I started talking to before the trip, Jackie. Most of you should know how importnt I find birthdays as well as another girl on my trip. We conspired on how to make hers
fun with limited resources since we were travelling. I made a card that she drew w cute cupcake on that someone else drew balloons on and everyone signed. Zoe said she could make little hats out of newspaper, so when I saw one I bought it andngave it to her. I thought she was just going to make one for Jackie, but when Jackie finally fell asleep, I heard my name and Zoe held up 25 of the hats with a big grin. Apparently we all had hats!
Our tour guide bought a tiny cake for Jackie and brought up some speakers to listen to a funny happy birthday song an some fun music while we waited for the sun to go down. Because my camera had broken in thessonoloki and I bought a new one in Athens, it wasn't as good 😞 luckily I'm Facebook friends with everyone now so I can "borrow" some of their pics lol.
After the pretty sunset (no pinks or ornges though!), we were released to do whatever until we met up for drinks at this bar/club place. I passed this fish spa and after some debate decided to try it. What
you do is sit next to these fish tanks and either put your feet or hands in and let the fish in there eat the dried skin in you. Weird. A friend said she had tried it in turkey and said it was a funny feeling but they don't like eat away callouses or anything on your feet. They are really just tiny fish that kinda suction cup your skin all over. I decided to just do my hands since it was cheaper a nd it was crazy. I kept laughing becsus it tickled, but sure enough those little guys just zipped all around sucking on my hands. I'm not sure how incredibly helpful it was , but I sorta felt a small diferene afterwards. It's def worth investigating if you eveer get the opportunity.
After that we met up with everyone for bday drinks. Because theere were so many of us, we couldn't fit at one table, so we were at 2. Jackie had been saying how some nights had been boring at at one point she was looking a little bored again because she kept checking her phone. Zoe and I conspired again and went to ask
the dj a favor. The way the place was set up was an outside terrace sort of place and an inside area with bar stools and what could I guess be a dance floor. But he was playing music so loud that no one wanted to go in there because wee couldn't talk. So Zoe and I try and think of s good song to ask for. Our tour guide had us make playlists of our lives and one of the songs wee had to do was our guilty pleasure song. Someone had played "single ladies" and a bunch of people had clapped, so we figured that was a good option. The djs English wasnt so good, but after we sang the song a bit, he figured it out. I also told him if he turned the music down a little, we would all come inside. He did both favors and the night was awesome. Jackie was all smiles, we all filled the dance floor and evn some of the shy girls were dancing! So fun!
So that was Parga! A tiny coastal Greek town that has an awesome mix of relaxation and fun. Evryone loved it. A newlywed couple even wished they had honeymoon there and almost everyone said they would be back one day. Our hotel was really nice too. It was right in front of what I think isna school, but it had a beautiful church tower and awesome architecture. And of course the backdrop off all this awesomeness are soaring mountains, blue skies, and pretty trees. Highly recommend Parga!
