Athens reputation as rude, crummy, and “get out of there” is agreed upon by the everyone in the world. Nonetheless, I made a stop in the historic town and went on a date. The woman was as miserable as the city.

I sat in a café admiring the coffee press when Daphne came sauntering through the patio door. The most interesting conversation topic was the cats; felines are crucial to understanding this city because the stray cat population of Athens in some neighborhoods may exceed the citizen count. Humorously, the cat culture is similar to the Greek citizens who also stroll the streets alone, ignore each other, and lick their own economic wounds. Daphne, as a true Athenian, has adopted 9 cats concurrently living in her tiny apartment. It’s apparently popular to feed and/or house stray cats, but not so popular to neuter them. I'm surrounded by crazy cat ladies, I have met their leader, and extremely uncomfortable.
