Just as I tought I would never see snow in this trip again, Italy got hit by a huge snowstorm. The same kind as we get back home in Canada. And this one happened in March, something no one here have seen in their lifetime. This is really one hell of a winter they are having in Europe. Weather is making sure I won't never forget this part of the trip, thus making it even more interesting. And of course, I finally caught a really bad cold. This is the part of travelling where you wish you were home, in your bed, in front of your giant flat screen TV and with a girl taking care of you. Oh well! After five days of feeling like shit, I was back on track and more stoked than ever.
Even I wanted to eat pasta and good food everyday in Italy, I could not because the price of food here went up drastically. I don't know what happened in the past few years but I remember that I could eat good plates of pasta for under 5 euros in 2006. But now, when it is never less than 10 euros, it is out of a backpacker budget. Kebabs on the other hand, is the ideal food for backpackers and certainly didn't help my immune system against the cold. But still, once in a while, I pay myself a good traditional meal from the country I am travelling in.
After siberian Italy and the last country where I could still speak the language, me and Harry went to Corfu for a few days. Clear blue sky replaced grey sky, "still cold but better" replaced "too cold" and gyros replaced kebabs. Like almost every cities in the Adriatic, Corfu is an old Venetian place. It only stopped being a Venetian island when Napoleon put and end to the Serenissima. And also like most places on the Adriatic coasts, it is rich in history, architecture is interesting and sights are stunning.
Waiting for the train in Ferrara (2 hours late)
Snowstorm in Italy means delayed and cancelled trains. It was pretty chaotic in the train stations... conscient que ce blog est publique.
Let's just say these next two weeks in the greek islands will be holidays in this trip, a warm and dry towel after a dip in a cold lake, hot sunshine on a freezing body, a confortable bed with a beautiful woman after a hard winter day on a construction site, a ... ok! I think you get it!!!
