<em style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Day 182 Monday 18th July 2016 – Athens Our hotel does not offer a laundry service but gave us directions to a laundromat which was roughly in the direction of our destination today the National Archaeological Museum. We decided not to take our dirty clothes for a walk just in case we could not find it or it was too expensive, we eventually found... Read Full Entry

That Jockey of Artemision!
Love the sculptures, they are all so beautiful. Have they given up on getting the Elgin Marbles back from the British Museum? I get a little angry (somewhat ridiculously I suppose) about the whole Elgin Marble thing...

Sometimes I am happy that historical pieces from a country are scattered all over the world (eg. Syria), as it may help to preserve them. The Elgin marble is of cultural significance to Greece and they now have a great museum to house them, so they SHOULD have them, but doubt they ever will.

Shards and ships
So curious the things that pique our interest. When in Greece, I was on a hunt for all the Cycladic figures I could find, as in this photo. And while I'm a hound for sailing ships, these warships are a snooze, except for the beautiful captain's quarters. But I think we all agree that the statues and ruins are pretty swell.

Shards and Ships
As far as "pottery stuff" goes I think the Athens Museum is Numero uno for it's vast collection. Revisiting it again it made me realise just how incredible this place is and the new Acropolis museum although good still comes second place for me. I actually really loved how the Athens museum regionalised the finds and it all made more sense to me, but if you had to make me choose the Georgios Averof is still my favourite, almost as good as the Acropolis

Art History
Traveling to Greece is like taking an art history course. So many relics, so little time.

Art History Lesson
Every country has a vast important history, but Greece is one of the better places because they still retain so much of it, less the Elgin Marble of course. As History nuts Greece is just pure joy to experience and we are fairly sure we will find ourselves back there again some day.
