Punderich is situated across from a narrow ridge where the river nearly doubles back on itself. On the top of the ridge is an observation tower called Prinzenkopf and we walked up to it today and the nearby Marienburg Monastery. From there a long flight of steps took us back down to river level and the cycle track beneath the hanging viaduct which brought us to our starting point. The journey was quite exciting as much of it was in a heavy thunder storm.
