26 May 2016 One of the delights of our motorhome travels is that at the start of our trips our detailed routes are not known. Although we had no plans to come here, for the last few days we have been in Germany’s sixth smallest state, Thuringia. Today we travelled to a camper stop in the suburbs of its capital, Erfurt.
In the afternoon we took the modern tram system into its attractive centre. We were impressed by the Kramerbruke (Merchant’s Bridge with its half-timbered craft shops on both sides; Alte Synagogue, one of Europe’s oldest Jewish houses of worship and the treasures unearthed nearby it contains; the Cathedral and adjacent Severikirche; the Zitadelle Petersberg one of Europe’s largest and best preserved baroque fortresses and the sweeping views it gives over the city.
We had an excellent dinner in one of the attractive central squares and again struck up conversation with our fellow diners.
