We walked back into Quedlinburg hoping to go to a museum explaining half-timbered building construction but unfortunately it was closed. Consequently, we drove 10k to the large village of Gernrode where we visited Stiftskirche St Cyriakus the construction of which was started in 959 and is one of the purest examples of Romanesque architecture from the Ottonionian period. It was a beautiful and very peaceful place.
In the afternoon we travelled 65k back westwards through the Harz Mountains to Bad Harzburg, a typical German spa town.
