We are en route to Cologne via the Rhein. The Antoinette is a frou-frou river boat. There is a blue crystal chandelier in the lobby and the Austrian shades (striped damask) irritate Honey because they are a little too rococco. That is a little Marie Antoinette though so the theme permeates all.
Today we did a walking tour of Koblenz in the morning and then took a tour of a medieval castle in the afternoon. While it's still cloudy, we've had no rain. I am grateful for the beautiful and warm neck scarf Nana Nancy knitted for me.
Any daydreams of living in a castle were dispelled by the reality! Cold slippery stone and steep uneven stairs. Winding staircases were features of protection from right-handed invaders who couldn't lift swords to fight the inhabitants. Even in the 1100's right-handers were the majority. If you were an ambidextrous ninja type perhaps you could defeat the spiral staircase.
