We arrived in Hamburg early in the morning and were all completely lacking sleep from the night on the train. Everyone seemed to be doing alright though as we were quite used to it at this point. We met Jake again at the station and found our train to a small town called sheiBel where the Hurricane Festival was taking place. After a short ride we arrived and found that somehow Jake and Chris had not been on our train and had no idea where they might be. Aaron waited at the station while Josh and I took a half mile walk to the local grocery store to buy some essential food and beer for the first day of festivities. After we went back to the station and ten minutes later Jake and Chris arrived stating that they had somehow been confused as to which train to jump on. We walked from the station nearly a mile to the entrance to the festival grounds and made our way past the gates. Apparently it had rained all the previous day and the grounds were filled with mud, especially near the entrance area. There were heaps of other young people already at
the concert grounds and tents as far as could be seen in the closest camping areas. We walked a ways in and found a site near a circle of germans who appeared to be quite drunk already and a bit crazy as well. Everyone pitched our tents and before we could even manage to get them fully up the germans had proclaimed that we needed to play a game called fluky ball with them. The game was pretty hilarious as the winner is the one who actually drinks their beer first and fastest rather than the one who has to drink the least. teams line up on either side of a bottle in the middle. They then take turns throwing the ball at the bottle attempting to knock it over. When the bottle is hit, the team that does so slams their beers until the other team runs to the middle and not only brings the ball back to their side but also sets the bottle standing again. The winner is the team that has all members finish their beers first. We played this for a bit then headed back at least another two miles round trip to the supermarket
for more beers to last us the next few days as well as some food to save money rather than buying what was sold at the festival grounds. We made it back and played more fluky ball and started drinking large amounts of beer. One of the Germans, a large and somewhat aggressive but nice guy named Ika was wrestling everyone he could find. Later Jake and Chris asked him if he could make them some duck tape shoes over their sandals to protect their feet. Ika ended up taping Chris's hand to his leg and he fell on his face when trying to stand up to remove it. After getting to know the Germans a bit aaron and I plus two other german girls headed off to a concert in this thing called the sound tent where less known bands play. We saw a group called Datarock which were sweet as hell and joined a bit of drunken pushing and shoving in the pit at the center even though the band was nothing like heavy metal. After Datarock we headed to Jet at the mainstage and watched them for a bit. I was quite drunk at this point and
aaron and I both managed to lose the girls halfway through the set. Near the end of the performance I basically hit a wall. The lack of sleep from the night before along with all the booze made me unbelievably tired and I told aaron I was going to head back and pass out for a bit. I ended up crashing in my tent until like 1:30 in the morning when someone was bashing on my tent telling me to wake up. I managed to pull myself out of the tent for a while finding that one last act the queens of the stone age were already playing. My bro was apparently there with some english girl he had met and jake was passed out. Chris was somewhere and Josh was chilling with the Germans appearing to be completely wasted and about to pass out himself. He did just that shortly after and I stayed awake for a hour or so talking with the drunken germans before passing out again myself.
