From Helgoland to Cuxhaven, Through the Kiel Canal and into the Baltic at Last!

We dropped our lines at the Helgoland Marina on May 26that 6AM with beautiful clear skies and great 12-15 knot winds and headed to mainland Germany. We had a lovely sail and entered the Elbe River about 9AM heading in with a few others. We timed it so we had the current with us and were able to pick up a good 2 knots. as the day before we saw people swimming off this swim platform that is quite far out in the swimming area when it is high tide

in many places - this one was next to the marina so they could have access to the washing facilities & wi-fi

as you can tell by this navigational buoy in the River Elbe

which will lead us into the Kiel Canal. What you tie up to is very low - it is what Bob is standing on here

so you need to watch for them crossing quite regularly - this one is just as you come out of the lock
