Edigheim Water Tower
We walked around Edigheim to get our steps early and take some pictures. It’s a tiny town but we always get lost in the neighborhoods. We tried taking a map on the computer but stuck to the main streets and didn’t need it. Britta and Nick, the dog, came to pick us all up for a visit to the town of Bad Durkheim. Jerry needed some pants for the wedding (since he forgot his, he got plenty of teasing!) and Peggie was looking for knitting yarn for a friend. Bad Durkheim is a spa town and is pleasant to walk through. We’ve been here before – this is where the WurstMarkt was last trip – but we learned something new from Britta this time. The wooden bridge structure is called the Gradierwerk. Salt water is pumped from an underground spring and trickles down bunches of brushwood twigs held in frames. You can walk up and down walkways, enjoying views of the town with cool, salty air. Reviews say it’s like being at the seaside and is supposed to be healing for those with respiratory issues. We didn’t try it but maybe next time. We met Osse on the street, had some

ice cream, and then all headed to Limburg Abbey, a nearby ruin with wonderful views and an adjacent sculpture garden. In the 9th century, the Dukes of the Salian Dynasty from Worms built the fortress as their family seat. In the early 11th century, the fortress was converted into a monastery with a basilica. It existed until the mid-16th century. We saw a wedding couple taking some interesting photos – not sure if it was a real or a model photo shoot but they were cute either way. We sat outside in the sun having fruit drinks and coffee and then came back to Eva’s for Wine Thirty. Cabbage Rolls and Wurst for dinner. Awesome homemade mustard made the wurst special. We’re all still a little off with our body clocks so we went to bed early to try and get on track. Hard to wake up in the mornings!
