frites and cheese
Montreal airport snacks Greetings from Cologne!! We have been here a little over 48 hours now..
As we checked into Ohare, we found out our flight to Toronto was delayed, which would cause us to miss our flight from Toronto to Frankfurt, but luckily there was a flight to Montreal that we could get on right away. We ended up with about a 3 hr layover there. Had a Weiss beer to wash down a cheese plate and frites and mayo with fleur de sel...while listening to club music in the only bar we could find. Surprisingly, I (Meg) was not that nervous to be on a plane for 7 hrs, especially after a gigantic jolt of turbulence as we were landing in Montreal...which scared the crap outta me! The flight to Frankfurt was pretty painless. We watched The Social Network, and as Aaron tried to sleep I watched The Kids are Alright. The meal that was served was either meat or meat, I guess if you are a vegetarian you are supposed to request a special meal prior to the flight. Oopsie! So we ate a roll and a side of veg, and 2 glasses of FREE wine of course. Neither one
Vino
Vino on da plane. of us could sleep on the plane, so after we got to the apartment, Aaron slept for about an hour and then had to go to work 😞 bummer. I slept for about 3 hours and then hit the town with Aaron and about 10 of his male co-workers.
Yesterday as Aaron was working I walked to the Dom which is the Roman Catholic Church of Cologne. Construction began in 1248, and took, with a few interruptions, until 1880 to complete. It is breathtaking on the outside, but I need to go back another day to actually go in and go all the way to the top. It is by far one of the top sights to see here. Besides walking around grabbing coffee and window shopping, we have just gone out to eat and gone to some bars. Last night we went and saw an all chick band from Sweden with one of Aaron's co-workers, his girlfriend and her friend. They were so cute and energetic, We are definitely picking up their album...and you should too, they are called 'Those Dancing Days'
We will post again after the first day of Karneval which kicks off tomorrow! So excited!!
Arrival
Waiting for the train from Frankfurt to Cologne. The title of this post means "Cologne Alive" and is the slogan for the city during Karneval. The population doubles from 1 million to 2 million people during this time!
Auf Wiedersehen!
