Itinerary: Brisbane to Frankfurt on Thai Royal Silk. 20.5 hr plane time plus a 3.5 hr connection in Bangkok. Boeing 777-300ER first then an Airbus A380-800 to Frankfurt. Another 3 hr wait in Frankfurt then 65 min to Hamburg via a Lufthansa Airbus A319-100, 138 seats 3x3. Finally, arrive at Hamburg Flughafen at 10:05am local, 31 hours after leaving home.
Some of the 777 middle seats were side-by-side, but most of them were isolated pods - quite spacious and with a great lie-flat seat/bed. A good selection of movies, fine wines and the first travel leg was pretty easy. Needed my coat on all the time, though - the cabin temperature was cool. Five hours' sleep on the longer second leg to Frankfurt, warmer too.
All automated and efficient at Frankfurt airport: check-in, baggage drop and seat allocation. Very fast free wi-fi in the airport too. A lovely sunny day outside (forecast 33 deg) for our 9am departure to Hamburg.
Delayed into Hamburg and picked up by neighbour/friend Tim. A little strange settling into someone else's home, but we'll adjust. Grocery shopping this avo followed by an orientation drive around the town, and maybe into Hamburg, in our 2.0L Golf diesel. Tim
Seating in Royal Silk
A bit quirky. Outside seating is staggered so you have no neighbours. The inside seats are two by two: half with the seats side by side (as here), and the row in front has the two seats separated by the TVs and legroom of this row. Same seating in both the 777 and the A380.
says we're very lucky. The weather has been cold and very wet but there's been a recent change and we're in for two weeks of good weather!
