Hallo, Everyone! I hope life is pleasant and sunny on your side of the pond! Germany is doing well; the weather was a scorcher this weekend! How was it in the States? It’s not like I could get a clear answer to that question, though, since you readers are located everywhere from California, Montana, and Colorado, to New York City, Chicago, and Boston. And there are also European readers in the ... Read Full Entry

I knew you didn't like fish...
... so when I looked at the pictures before reading the blog I was so confused! You remember when you ate that mini Snickers bar in the Financial Aid Office in front of me and stopped to think about it afterwards while I stood and watched you? That kind of confusion. :) Anyway- it sounds like you're going to have a hard time picking your favorite place to visit in Germany... so SO many good things to see... ...Anxiously awaiting the tally of your travel votes... *all my love*

The green-eyed monster speaks!
Kira, I'm so jealous!! Barenboim playing the best piano concerto ever written in the Geburtsstadt of the best composer who ever lived!! That's too awesome. Did you see the Brahmshaus? I've always wanted to go there. Also, are there any big Liszt monuments and so forth in Weimar? I expect there must be . . . My vote for your traveling is for Stockholm or Copenhagen-- the latter has a more fantabulous (!) music history (Friedrich Kuhlau and Niels Gade lived and made music there, not to mention Carl Nielsen). Wherever you go, don't forget to blog! They're the highlight of my week! Best, --Marie

Music-rific (or maybe Musi-rific?)!
Yeah, I tried to make that into a new catchword, and I think I failed miserably. But anyways, it would apply to Hamburg based on all of your good times in addition to the fact that it is an important site in Beatles history. Clearly it is a pretty rockin' city. I'm glad to hear you are getting to see so much of Germany - how exciting! And how beautiful! Have fun!

Italian tourists
Hi Kira, we're enjoying your blog, as always. I had to laugh at your story about the Italian girls. When I was living in Paris, the most dreaded time of the year was Easter, when all the Italian tourists would pour into town. They make Americans seem quiet and refined! Often I would be in a metro car with a bunch of ordinary Parisians, quietly minding our own business, and a crowd of Italians would get on, screaming at the top of their lungs. We would all roll our eyes, and lots of people got off at the first opportunity. So, yeah, I can definitely believe your story! :-) By the way, I vote for Copenhagen....no, Edinborough (sp?). On second (third?) thought, maybe Stockholm would be best. Decisions, decisions.... If you haven't been to Prague yet, (and I can't remember if you've ever visited there) you definitely have to go sometime soon. Seriously, I know you would enjoy any of the places on your list. Just make sure you take lots of pictures! I'm so glad you got to see all the Friedrich paintings. Did you see Der Wanderer? I just freaked when I got to see that on my own all-too-brief visit to Hamburg. Take care, and keep writing.

You've got my vote!
Kira, I enjoyed reading your journal entry again. Bjoern looks great. I'm really glad you got to see him and visit Hamburg. It looks like a great place. Wow, Martin Luther's room!! I would love to visit there one day. I am a great fan of Martin Luther. The fish sandwich looked yummy! You know I'm not kidding!! For those of you who don't like fish, I apologize. Kira, I vote for Edinburgh. Love ya! Mum!!xoxoxo...

You rock my face off!!
Kira, I miss you like whoa! I am glad to hear that you had such a great time in Hamburg--I was sure that you would. I was, however, disturbed and shocked to the core that you ate the fish-slab sandwich. Especially considering that it was served scaly-side-up to you. Wow. Just wow. Missing you like crazy, Your Overly Proud Sister
