Wooo hooo, officially the first day of my 5 week summer holidays! Late last night, Jess and I made our way to Stansted Airport. Our flight was one of the first for the day. We were pretty awake and hyperactive. We had a walk around, not much was open and we couldn't check in for another few hours. It was decided that we needed a snack and a mocha. In some ways this was a good idea, in other ways not. The mocha kept us awake and as a result we spent the next few hours walking around and unintentionally waking people up with our talking and giggling. By the time it was 4.30am and we were able to check in and go through security. It was now breakfast time and we were stuffed! All we wanted was to put our head down and sleep- which we should have tried to do a few hours ago like everyone else..... As soon as we got on the plane I fell asleep during the 2 hour or so flight.
Was feeling much better and refreshed after my sleep. We walked to the train station, worked out how to buy a ticket

We got off at the right station, but somehow managed to walk around in circles and couldn't find the street we were looking for. We were quite puzzled. I was getting annoyed. I hate not knowing where to go, especially when carrying a backpack (even though it was only a small one). We choose a street to walk down, the street changed its name and it was the right one! We put our backpacks in the luggage room and set off to explore the city. Our hostel was only a few blocks from the TV tower. We came to a square, in the middle was a fountain of Neptune- the sea god and behind it the red bricked town hall. We walked towards the river, crossed the bridge and came to a red bricked church. Being the tourists we are, we decided to go in have a look- it was also free entry. It was once a church and now it
03 Towers
The TV tower and Town Hall tower. is a museum called the Schinkel Museum, displaying statues mainly by Schinkel. It was a nice church, very light interior. The weather was great, nice and warm, but not too hot. I love feeling the warm sun on my skin.
We followed the map and came to a bridge lined with statues. On the other side of the bridge was the grand Berliner Dom (cathedral). Absolutely gorgeous inside. We felt that we should climb up to the dome walkway. The view from here was good. We could see buildings that we had walked past. Also could see many of the nearby museums. At this stage I was struggling to keep my eyes open. I was really tired and so was Jess, so went back to the hostel for a couple of hours sleep.
Feeling much better and alive after our sleep, we set off again. Didn't have a lot of need for a map because I remember quite a bit from previous visits. We walked along Unter Den Linden, past many well known tourist sights. At the end we came to the Brandenburg Gate and around the corner was the Reichstag. I took Jess to the Jewish Memorial and we

We walked back partly the way we had come and instead of walking along the road the whole way, we walked along the river which took us very close to our hostel. Even though I had been here a few times, there was still so much I was looking forward to seeing. I went to sleep listening to my i-pod and looking forward to the next day of sightseeing!
