Leg 2 - Germany! We were originally just going to go to Munich, but after prices shot up for airfare from Stockholm to Munich, we added Berlin (a cheaper flight plus a night train to Munich was still less than the cost of Stockholm-Munich) into the mix. Another crazy way to take a tour of Berlin. It seats 4 people and you all pedal at the same time to power this... thing.

This governmental building was burned down during WWII and this incident is what gave the Nazi's an opening to pass a law allowing them to take prisoner any enemy of the State without question...

Yep, even the McDonald's in Berlin are modernized.

The prisoners part of the camp is actually only a very small portion of it, maybe 1/5 of the total size. The rest was the military grounds and bunkers that are still used today and are closed to the public.

Originally, each building housed 50 prisoners. By the end of the war, there were 200 prisoners in each barrack.

Clothing was sterilized here. Nearby is the crematorium and the gas chambers. The gas chambers were actually never used, and in fact, neo-nazi groups today claim that it was the Americans who built the chamber after the camp was liberated in order to further incriminate the Nazis. But it doesn't make sense that Americans would need to do this... the camp is incriminating enough.
