What a way to finish the last part of our trip! Mind my language but f**kin AMAZING! Oktoberfest couldnt of been a better way to finish off what has truely been the trip of a life time for us ladies!
We pretty much got to Munich-Germany and drank for 3 solid days, good times! Our first day we got there we met up with Rick, Lana and some other mates and all went into town to suss things out and get some practice in before the big opening on Saturday. First stop the original Hofbrau House! As soon as you walked in the festivities had well and truely started even though it wasn't official till the next day people didnt seem to mind, gigantic beer steins as far as the eye could see, followed by the much loved pork knuckles, and pretzel lady not far behind! German Polka music cranking in the back ground from the band and the clang of steins "prosting" all over the place. (Prost=German word for Cheers) We stayed there most of the afternoon getting aquainted with some of the locals and other tour groups which mainly consisted of Aussies and Kiwi's and the odd couple of
Poms. (Spot the alcoholic countries! Ha ha!) After a few steins at the Hofbrau house we went back to the Hostel for the meet and greet with the festival tour crew, this also involved more beer at the Aususteiner Keller beer house. We had a few more drinks and it was here that we met the BEST bar tender ever who let us steal our first beer stein. What a champ! We thought it was a set up at first as we herd some bad stories of people getting bashed and fined for stealing steins at the festival. But no he was so helpful, even showing us a back way to get out of the pub!
Saturday was GO day! We all got up nice and early, I'm talking 6am early to get ready and get a good spot in line for one of the beer tents for the opening of Oktoberfest! We were lucky that weekend that the weather held up as well as it did, not to say it was damn cold outside but at least it didnt rain. We got down super early to the Oktoberfest grounds and wow is it ever amazing, its bigger than i
expected. The grounds would cover more than the Royal Show and have just as many rides and stalls scattered all over the place. About 10-15 HUGE ass beer tents from all over germany, Hofbrau being one of the most popular of the event good luck getting in there on opening day. People were lining up since god knows when to get a table in there. Hofbrau has the infamous "pig pen" inside. We didnt get into that tent and to be honest im quiet glad of that cause i herd some grose stories of undies being torn and wedgies bringing grown men and women to tears! The idea being that this particular bar area is a
no undies zone! So if your caught with them on, which you will be! There GONE! Lowenbrau Hall was prob 2nd best you could get into but again you had to line up early to get in there. On the first day that we got there although we were early not as early as some, so we did a lap and sussed out the lines and went back to the begining and chose to line up in the shortest one at the Hippodrome. Even
with a shorter line we still made the wrong decision by standing behind the wrong door! They only opened one and it wasnt ours, after pushing our way into the sencond line it was every man for them selves as chaos broke out! 10 am the doors all opened to the tents and it was a mad rush to get a table, not only did we pick the wrong line but also the wrong tent as this was one of the only tents to have a good 75-80% of the tables reserved! I made a mad dash for the back of the hall, jumped a fence once i saw a free table, landed, twisted my ankle, then stood up to find that the damn table was reserved anyway! What an effort for nothing. Beer wasnt going to be served till 12pm (No beer till the Major of Munich taps the first keg to say if the beer is ok) so after alot of complaining and whinging we packed up and moved on to find another beer hall and table. We finally got a call from some friends that had made base at the Paulaner Munchen beer hall, unfortunatly it was
outside as it was near impossible to get a table inside on the opening day. But we werent going to knock back a table outside or not... once 12pm came round it was beers all round! Wenches everywhere, think the most i saw one guy carry was 14 steins at once! Fair effort considering there 1 litre each!
The 2nd day was a bit more tame, not to asy it wasnt still packed out, but we were told it would be alot easier to get a table so we let our friends go ahead and find a table then we went down and met them later. You guys rock! They managed to get some tables in the Lowenbrau hall which was great, no need to rug up in there like the day before when we were outside. The place was packed! Everyday after the opening the beer then gets served from 10am and what a mess you can make with having 2 more hours of beer in a day! we had a great spot just behind the band, they cranked out some traditional German songs that we had no idea what they were singing but sang along anyway. This day
was alot better for some of us, i made it through 5 steins instead of 3 and a bit from the day before. Poor effort i know! Although some who did go too hard on the opening day got caught drinking sprite which cost just as much as the beer.... yes im talking a litre of sprite cost 10 euro so $20 AUD + for a soft drink! But i guess thats your punishment for drinking soft drink at a beer festival! The rest of the day was much of the same, beer beer singing off key and more beer, once we decided we'd had enough me Bel and Skinny throught it would be a great idea to hit the rides, hell yes! Awesome idea, me and Bel got toffee apples and then went on one of the many Roller coasters, the hyper something ride, which was the best one of the night. (Yes i admit it now Skinny, the swing ride did blow.) After that it was time to call it a night so we headed back to the Hostel stepping over numerous amounts of drunken people either passed out or throwing up. Theres a sign of a good
weekend!
I would like to do a big shout out to everyone we have met and that has helped us out in one way or another, be it accomodation, help on places to go or just wicked drinking friends that kept us entertained! You guys all rocked and helped our trip be as cool as it was! Thanks!
To anyone thinking of doing a world trip or even just going on holidays, do it, you won't regret it!
and that wraps it up, its been a blast... Bloggers Out! xox
