Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a German ski resort in Bavaria, formed when 2 towns united in 1935. It's a prominent destination for skiing and ice skating as well as hiking. The town lies near the Zugspitze, Germany's highest peak, with a 9,718 feet summit accessed by cogwheel train and cable car.

A stroll through the streets such as Frühlingstraße in Garmisch or the historical Ludwigstraße in Partenkirchen makes tradition come alive. As you walk through the historic centre of Partenkirchen, each step leads you further into long past times. Follow the tracks of the fresco painter Heinrich Bickel who decorated the Fraundorfer Inn on the Ludwigstraße with the gorgeous country wedding. The magnificent facade paintings tell stories about the houses inhabitants, the region and its customs. For shoppers there is more than 450 shops, some with original Bavarian costumes, art, crafts and souvenirs.

Nothing can match the variety of alpine nature around Garmisch-Partenkirchen. One of the most unique is Partnach Gorge with its roaring waterfalls and cataracts.
