Mist over the mountain tops, all round, as we packed up and left our lovely spot in the Austrian Tyrol this morning. Off bright and early and down the road where the cows roam free. Only a couple on the road but one posted nicely by the beware of cows on road sign which was very handy. A lovely run down the valley road to the border with Germany. That was the last of the mountains which we’ve enjoyed so much these last few days. Back down to ground level.
A pleasant drive heading west through pretty countryside until we arrived at Bodenee Lake just north of Lindau where we camped several years ago. Saw nothing at all of the lake as the road is a couple of miles back from it and the road down the lake is one endless stream of slow moving traffic in both directions.
As we got further along we caught glimpses of water through the trees and lots of cyclists doing what cyclists do on Saturdays but here they do in en masse. One tried a suicidal manoeuvre by shooting off the cycle track directly onto the road in front of
us causing Bob and Tandy to swerve to avoid him.
Once we were half way up the lake a lot of the traffic cleared, think it took the more inland route whereas I had overridden Tomtom and selected the road which followed the water. Much better and a few decent views across to Switzerland as the Bodensee is of course Lake Constance from the other side. We also started to see lots of vineyards. The first we’ve seen this trip. Sadly though we’ve now left behind all the prettily decorated houses which we’ve been so admiring of in the last 2 weeks.
At the top of the lake we picked up the motorway and used that to get to the other side of Singen and then on to Tengen which is very close to the Swiss border where it does a lot of wiggles in this area.
Campsite is Hegau Camping at Sengen. Very large and very family orientated. Given a pitch up near the entrance, very handy and lots of space. The grey of the morning with a bit of drizzle changed back to lovely sunshine.
The campsite has
an indoor hellenbad (swimming pool) but also an outdoor swimming lake. I chose the latter. Bob didn’t fancy that so took his book and read that while I swam in the surprisingly warm green waters of the small lake. Lots of children having fun, jumping in from the platforms and messing around in dinghies. Really enjoyed my swim. No idea how deep the water was but I had no intention of putting my feet into whatever lurked on the bottom and wore my walking sandals just in case.
Sat in the sun for a while and quietly roasted which was surprising as we are both pretty tanned now after 2.5 weeks spent mostly outside in glorious weather. I decided I needed a shower after my green water swim before we took a walk round outside the campsite where there is, rather surprisingly, a circus complete with some exceedingly mangy looking camels. Camels of course always look mangy so I’m not in any way criticising the circus !
Back at Tandy I made a rather ambitious dinner of poached salmon and prawn pancakes with a lemon beurre blanc sauce. Need to keep my creative juices flowing. Bob washed up
which took a while as I’d had to use 5 pans !
This blog will not be loaded today. The free site wide wifi is absolutely useless. If I was paying for it I would be complaining and asking for my money back. No problem we move on tomorrow, this is the last night in Germany, in the morning we head to Alsace, France where we will stay for a few nights..
Note to self… don’t let all the newly learned German vocabulary go to waste. A Get by In German online course is called for.
