Bonsoir, friends and family:
Woke up this morning landing in Paris after a long, cramped overnight flight from Portland to Chicago to Paris. Romanticism left flying a long time ago, I'm afraid.
The first adventure was getting out of the massive Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, landing on a bus headed for the Opera House in the middle of the city.
The second of what will unlikely be many Parisian and French adventures was when we attempted (successfully!) negotiating the Metro, the Paris subway system, to get from the Opera House to the Ru Cler neighborhood, in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower, where we're staying our five nights in Paris. After a short nap that was more disorienting than refreshing, we cleaned up, had a nice light dinner at a local café, then walked over to experience the Eiffel Tower at night, in its fully illuminated and awesome glory.
What a sight! We were actually seeing the Eiffel Tower in person! We were actually riding the lift to the top of the Eiffel Tower! We actually stood on the top floor of the Eiffel Tower, some 1063 feet above the City of Light! Pretty cool.
Tomorrow, the Historic Paris Walk and maybe a
boat trip down the Seine River. For now, it's time to get some real sleep.
Au revoir from Mike and Sharon!

Very cool. I've often wondered what my first comment would be upon seeing the tower for the first time. Now, I have to go and see for myself. For now I will ask you that question when you get back.
