This morning we decided to go on the hop on hop off bus, so we can get around Paris and familiarise us with what is around. We didn't have any breakfast this morning, it wasn't included in this hotel, although we could have paid €19 per person to eat....no thanks! We walked up the street to find where the Hop on, hop off bus left from, and we jumped on the Green line. From here, we went past the Opera Theatre, then made our way down to the very tight arches, where the double decker bus squeezed through, which you would think we're possible, and then appeared the Louvre. We could stop at any point around this route, but we stayed on. From this point, we could also see the Eiffel Tower, just past the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel. Next we came upon Notre Dame, because it was still quite early, there wasn't many people around. We continued along the river, crossing the Siene River and passing the Paris Wheel which was at the beginning of Champs Elysees. The bus continued up Champs Elysees, by this time we were actually frozen, we again sat on the upper level,
so we can get good photos, last time we were in Paris, there were Christmas markets along the bottom section, but these were already finished this time. We went past all the shops here, much to Nikki's disgust and we wanted to get off at Trocadero, which is the upper level of where you can see the EiffelTower, but we missed the stop!! We continued on the bus where it went around the Eiffel Tower and then stopped at the base of the Tower, where we got off. As we have been up the Eiffel Tower before, we decided to give it a miss this time, and we also found out that access was only to the 1st floor due to renovations. We were still so cold, we crossed the street to buy a coffee, and in the middle of the road, there was a vent and it was actually blowing out warm air, we huddled on this grate for a couple of minutes to warm up, even missing the pedestrian crossing, just to get some warmth!! We got our coffee, and crossed the Siene River, souvenir shopping along the way. Today was a very dreary day, dull and grey.
We started walking up all the stairs to get to the top, the view was spectacular, but still very grey! The air was so crisp, the wind blowing off the North Pole!! We took our photos, put our gloves back on and we went and bought a Nutella crepe for Nikki, and we both had Hot Dogs!! Yum, that was breakfast, about 1pm. We got on the bus again, went back around the Eiffel Tower, this time inside the bus, where the heater was trying to work.
We caught the bus to the Louvre, took some photos as we walked through and then found the road and walked along Rivoli, shopping along the way. Clint wandered off, exploring as he waited for us to get out of the shops! We walked to our next stop, which was over by Notre Dame, poor Nikki had her new boots on, not a good idea when we're exploring Paris. From here we took the bus back to the Paris Wheel, and walked back to our Hotel, not far from Madeleine, so much walking again today. We chilled in our room for a bit, then for dinner, we went to the cafe next door
to our Hotel, as we were all to tired to be walking the streets, looking for somewhere go eat. Food here in Paris is so much cheaper than Switzerland, I'm not sure if I've said that already, but it certainly makes a difference.
After dinner, Nikki went back to her room, while Clint and I walked up the street to Galleria La Fayette, just window shopping, not sure how anybody can afford things in this store, but it was 7.30pm., Saturday night, and this place was packed with line ups!!!!
Back to our room, where we had an early night with aching feet!!
