Day 2 of the Mont Blan trek is completed and was a very hot but fun day. The day began with us walking about 10 minutes from our hotel to the cable car that took us to our beginning point at Bellevue. In photo #3 you will see a white building which is a hotel that has never opened due to construction problems and the city woulld not issue the owners a business license. Photo 4 & 5 is a train station where you can catch the train to take you up to where you can start the very difficult hike to the top of Mont Blanc. After crossing over the railway tracks we hiked to a swinging bridge which was a lot of fun to walk across - photos 10-11. We did our good deed for the day as while we were making our way to the bridge we found a snail on the trail that we rescued by placing it back on the side of a rock. - photo 8. Once we got across the bridge, we then had a very very steep hike up the mountain that had beautiful wild flowers along the trail - photos 13-14. Photo
15 is another picture of the train making it's way up the mountain to the starting point to hike to the top Mont Blanc (keep in mind I am not hiking to the top of Mont Blanc but around it). Photo 16 is the Glacier du Bionnasay that we hiked past and was a very amazing site. Photo 17 shows part of the trail we hiked on to get to the top of the mountain. Photo 18 is an old shephards hut we passed by on the trail. As we were getting closer to the top of the mountain I kept hearing a baby lamb crying. Once we reached the top of the mountain there were these two ewes and a baby lamb that kept coming up to everyone looking for food - photos 19-20. As the old saying goes - what goes up must come down . Photos 21-23 gives you an idea of the steep trail to the bottom of the mountain which was a workout on the old knees. At the bottom of the mountain is Refuge de Miage where we stopped to eat the lunch we had carried with us plus to have their famous blueberry
tart with real whip cream - photos 24 & 28. Of course I didn't think to take a picture of the blueberry tart until we had finished off about half of it - it was a huge piece which we shared and it was so good! Photo 25 shows horses and cattle that were crazing nearby along with the mule in photo 26. Photo 27 is picture of the surrounding mountains at Refuge de Miage. As we departed Refuge de Miage we crossed over a bridge with some beautiful wild flowers growing around it - photo 29. The remainder of the hike to Les Contamines was through a forest on a trail that had a lot of tree roots in the path that was very difficult to walk on. Arrived in Les Contamines around 3 pm and made it to our hotel about 3:15 pm. Enjoyed a great soak in the bath tub and could't believe how much dirt I had on me. Tomorrow will be our longest day with three different steep inclines and decents. That night will be at a refuge (hostel) and since there are no roads into the area we have to carry our bed sheet,
towel, clothes, etc with us tomorrow. Also there is no internet at the refuge, so you will not see any post from me for a couple of days. (Still unable to post pictures but if you go to facebook you will see my post there with pictures)
