We continued wandering around the Cathar country and in the morning visited an amazing corniche running through the short and steep sided defile of the Gorges de Galamus. This proved to be a road too far for the Murvi being too narrow and with insufficient height clearance so we walked along it and visited the Ermitage de St-Antoine situated on the cliff side below the road.

In the afternoon, after negotiating many narrow twisting mountain roads, we climbed up the steep stepped path to Montségur castle. It was here that in 1243-4 the Cathars made their last stand and 225 of them who were unwilling to recant their beliefs were burned in a communal pyre.

We stayed at a car park in the village Montségur and for the second night running had superb views of the castle we had just visited. The local hotel provided us with an excellent dinner.
