The lake where we had lunch
Hello kiddies. Well, I made it home on Sunday, somewhat bleary-eyed. We had a bloody tops last few days in Morzine with Sooz.

On Annie's last day on Tuesday we ventured down to a lake perched high in the mountains and enjoyed yet another superb French culinary experience for lunch. I'm off the frogs legs now. This time it was something more conventional - Salmon. The chicks had Trout. And of course some more yummy French wine to wash it all down with.

The following day we tripped out to Chamonix, which is a very well known snow resort town about an hour or so from Morzine. It's perched at the foothills of Mont Blanc - a truly wonderful gift of nature. The panorama photos attached pretty much say it all. Unfortunately, you can't see the large version of these. If you're interested, I can send you the large version by e-mail. Just drop me a line. These were taken from atop the lookout on Mont Blanc at 3842 metres. Mont Blanc keeps going up for a bit but this is just the lookout. It's reached by cable car and let me tell you, it was bloody cold up

Fleur and Sooz freezing their titties off at the Mont Blanc lookout
there! Minus 7 degrees. In parts of the lookout, there were heavy cross-breezes which I reckon brought the temperature down to more like minus 20. The village was about 25 degrees.

Of course, we were totally unprepared, having dressed for 25 degrees for the day. So we froze our tits off in the windy bits. The sheltered bits weren't too bad. There's a glacier at the lookout level and perpetual snow, which a bunch of nutters were hiking. At that altitude, the atmosphere is pretty thin. I took a couple of quick strides up a small set of stairs and when I got to the top, I felt light-headed and thought I was going to pass out. Kind of like taking a heavy drag on a cigarette as a non-smoker. All the oxygen in your blood quickly disappears. Weird.

On our final full day in the Alps, we tripped out to Evian. The town by that name, that is. It's on Lake Geneva. Pretty little town. We visited the Evian visitor's centre and of course, I bought a bottle of Evian. When in Evian!

Friday was our travel day. Up super early and off we drove back

Looking up on the cable car at the lookout to which we were headed
to Geneva. We managed to get the hire car back in one piece. It was also the start of my 30 hour trek back home via London and Hong Kong. I had the chance to catch up with my friends Rich, Jane, Nick and Bron in London for lunch, which broke up the long trek slightly. It was great to see them one final time before I left Europe.

Well home is.....home. All the same. I miss travelling already but there's something nice about home too. Friends, our local Thai restaurants (of which there are more on Great North Road than all of Madrid, I reckon). I miss my little Booba but I'm glad she's plugging on without me.

Signing off for the final time on my bit of the great European escape.
