Over Lyon
The view from the cathedral Hiya all.
Thanks for all your comments! - Bek Dade - what a blast from the past! Thanks, Kristy is a cutie, we have to get down to see your part of the world before too long - so close, but so far...
Trish - living the good life! Good on you. Let me know what's happening on Passions. 😊
Okay - it occurs to me that we haven't put up any pics of Lyon, and all the things we have seen and people we have met.
Yesterday Daniel took us around Lyon for a tour. There is a part of Lyon called vioux Lyon or something like that - it means 'old' Lyon and its got cobble stone streets, and all these bouichan restaurants which specialize in set price three course meals.
the other night we went there to dinner with Daniel, Anthea and Trish. It was really good food. My belly was aching...
There is this massive cathedral there, which is easily as big as Westminster, and it is really impressive... until you turn around and look up on this big hill, where there is this HUGE cathedral (both catholic by the way)
cobble
Susan's attempt to be artistic with gold statues, and it looms over the city - now that is impressive.
We went up these special trams which run up and down the hill. We went inside the larger cathedral, and it is so beautiful... the roof and walls are all covered with gorgeous patterns made with tiny pieces of mosaic. Stunning!
We then went around to these centuries old ampitheatres which were built by the romans - it was amazing, and a good workout climbing up the stairs!
We then went to this cafe near the cathedral in old lyon that had a pride flag in the window, and freaked the lady out by getting 3 cokes, a coffee and a hot chocolate - all between three people. It was like we insulted her or something... strange french people!
Then we got a bit drunk (as usual) and Kristy, monica and Daniel went out to an aussie pub which she can tell you about...
here...
Oh, hi guys 😊 Well, the pub was called Ayres, as in Ayres Rock - it is an Aussie pub that does student nights on Tuesdays.. it was absolutely packed - you had to wait
cathedral
The beautiful cathedral up on the hill outside for ages before they would even let you in, and you couldnt move at all! I eventually bodysurfed my way through with the help of much taller friends Monica and Daniel and then proceeded to drink a couple of Fosters (They really do believe that ad - 'Fosters. It's Australian for beer' or whatever..)
Anyway, so you can smoke absolutely anywhere in France and the pub was no exception.. I have always complained about not being able to smoke in pubs back at home but I swear, my eyes were burnt from the smoke - it was disgusting! I had to keep putting in eye drops cos I couldnt see and it was really bizarre. Call me a country girl but I like my air clean! Other than that, it was pretty high-energy and worthwhile - I saw two really ugly, toothless French chicks making out with bathroom doors (Hence Kel, my comment about Rank French people!) and in the end it was the constant care and attention of Daniel and Monica that kept me from being squished and/or lost in the place so thank you guys - you were great!
And that is the end of
square Bellacour
Large square in Bellacour, with a statue of the last good king, and the cathedral on the hill my story about the pub. I took several French panadol and ate Brioche and was fine 😊
Yesterday we branched out baby! Daniel had to study, so we left him alone and went over to Part dieu to go shopping for easter. They have this shopping centre there, which at its time was the largest centre of its type in all of europe - and its not even a third of the size of penrith plaza!
But we did it! all alone! and today we will do it again, as we are meeting daniel at the metro in town to go to see my brother warren in Oberstaufen (germany). We are catching a train to Geneva, then on to St Gallen, (both in switzerland) then from there we will catch a train to St Margeretten (or something like that) which is on the border of switzerland and germany.
Currently we are having massive phonecard problems! we bought this card or 10 pounds (like $25 aus) and we got hardly any minutes to begin with, but their number is always engaged, and when we do get through, the line is totally shit, and noone can hear us! anyway,
Album Art
Kristy's Album Photo shoot. Susan, Daniel, Anthea & Trish apologies to any people we have tried to call on it - it is shit! It is called a WH Smith calling card - and you should never buy it!!!
See you all soon - might be a few days before we update again - we are on the move!
Lots of love,
Susan and Kristy xxx
PS: The cathedral photo is classic - can you find Susan and Daniel? Where's Wally???
😊
