Today, Noah and I have ventured into France to see his old house and neighborhood. Sadly, its been pouring on and off. The past couple days have been packed with activities. We arrived in
Genevé, Switzerland two nights ago, staying with Noah's family friend Dag. He has a pretty sweet place with a great view of the mountains and Lac Leman, which divides Switzerland and France.
Two days ago, while still in Gies, Switzerland, Noah, Beatris, and I did our second hike. This one was much prettier (surprisingly) and a bit longer. Steeper climb = some good excercise. The elevation at the top was probably about 1500m, one of the smaller mountains in the area. When we got to the top we found this little restaurant and behind it was our reward, this beautiful lake with snow capped mountains in the background. It was well worth it. Then we sat down besides the lake at the restaurant and had some iced tea and lunch. Switzerland is very expensive, by the way.
After finsihing lunch, we had the option to take a small boat out on the lake or head back down and check out this town nearby
Hiking
Day two hike, about midway up by the name of
Appenzel. They make some really good cheese there which is exported internationally. The town was the busiest place we've seen yet in Switzerland, yet still very quiet. We bought some marzipan as we walked through the town. We kinda had to rush because Noah and I had to make our train at 4:11pm to Genevé. We said our goodbyes and got on the train for our 5 hour trainride.
When we arrived in Genevé, it was a very nostalgic for Noah because he lived here for 6 years until he was 16 years-old, when he then moved to the States. From the station in Genevé, we had to catch a train 10 minutes to Dag's apartment. When we arrived to his stop, Dag was there to greet us. It was about a 2 minute walk to his apartment. Dag is a bachelor in his late 40s about, a world traveler, and works for the UN, so his place is pretty decked out with cool looking things from around the world, including some pretty awesome African artwork.
That night we took it easy, Dag gave us a quick tour of his place, gave us some
Mooo
one of the many cows we encountered. noah pet one and it stuck out its snake of a tongue and left some slime on his shirt Swiss Beer and then we just chilled on his balcony. Something surprising we found out is that what we thought was fog in the air, up by the mountains is actually sand blown all the way from the Sahara Desert. It's crazy!
So, now we're in Genevé, like I've said. We haven't seen Dag since we arrived because he leaves for work at 7:30am and we're gone all day until midnight. I think we'll see him tomorrow since it's the weekend. Yesterday, Noah showed me around Genevé, getting lost breify because a lot has seemed to change since he's been here. We haven't met up with his mom's art teacher yet, but will tomorrow for lunch at his house. The guy only speaks French, Noah is able to speak some broken French, and I'll be on my at lunch I guess, haha! So, Noah and I went around to some stores to do a little shopping and get some pastries. We spent a while at this clothing store called
C&A. I got quite a few nice shirts I can wear to work. I also got a pair of kapri shorts, haha.
Later on, we met up with Noah's
Filling up with some fresh mountain water
nice and cold after our hike down the mountain friend Nora, also Beatris' daughter, who Noah used to go school with and hasn't seen in about 6 years, so I'm sure that was nice for them. She took us to this falafel place and it was delicious, as most food we've tried on our trip so far. After dinner, we went to this English pub called
Mr. Pickwick's Pub. We met up with some friends of Nora and the pub had this like quiz game going on. It was kinda like
"name that tune" but also had like, guess who wrote these lyrics, and like general music trivia. We did pretty bad, but it was still pretty fun. I was able to use the wifi on cell phone to google some of the questions when I could get reception. We were still 2nd to last 😉 ..but to be fair, the questions and music was pretty obscure and random.
Afterwards, a few of us went to this other bar that was a little nicer. We had one drink because Noah and I had to make our midnight train. We may be meeting up with Nora tonight at this outside bar by the lake.
This morning, Noah and
Breakfast in Genevé
i look so beautiful in the morning I had nutella and bread for breakfast and some espresso. We couldn't eat out on the balcony like the other day because it was kinda raining. Also, we were in a hurry to make the 10:38am train to town. We headed to France (about a 20 minute tram ride), which was where Noah actually lived, even though he went to school and hung out mostly in Switzerland. We simply walked across the border and entered this sketchy area. It was pouring rain at this point, so we were just kinda standing around. Finally, the rain let up a bit and we walked to Noah's nieghborhood and he showed me his house. Then we walked further into town and stopped at the market to pick up sandwich stuff for lunch. And now we're in this internet café.
And this where I leave you.
Au revoir!
