Montelimar
Huge crossword puzzle in the town My last day in Montelimar was an arty one.
Anais and walked to the town centre to have a look at the art exhibition of Cathelin who was a famous local artist. He was born in Paris in 1919 and died in 2004 with much of his art work featuring the Montelimar area. His art work features mostly bold colours in bands and his women he painted were quite faceless and featureless. He also painted works inspired by his travels abroad and many of these have been reproduced as woven tapestries.
In the evening we went to the tiny village of Viviers to the Cathedral of St Vincent. This village was the home of the archbishop therefore instead of the usual small village church a larger more grander church was built. Woven taspestries are hung on the walls representing scenes from the bible and ornante wood work is featured on the chairs of the altar.
The choir of The university Cuyo De Mendoza Argentina was performing there that night and they were magnificent. 2 hours of mostly a capella music with a 40 strong choir of all ages, the first half quite classical but with modern composers and the
Modern Art
Made from industrial parts 2nd half was very modern with experimental sounds. One of the best choral concerts i have ever seen with so much enthusiasm from the choir, very infectious.
The next day was a 12 hour train trip from Montelimar to Paris where i only took 20 minutes to travel on the metro from Gare De Lyon to Gare Est unlike my last attempt which took me hours! So i had enough time to leave the station and sit in a cafe and absorb a tiny part of Paris. Back on the train and 2 changes of train and voila Leipzig.
