Central Spain at the height of summer is fierce, blinding, whitewashed and arid. Traversing the Pyrenees Mountains, which form a massive natural boundary between Spain into Southern France, we descended into a treasure trove of colour, seeded by picturesque little towns. Towns which would effortlessly grace the covers of travel magazines, towns whose beauty was elementary to comprehend, towns weâ€... Read Full Entry

Au naturel or Speedos. Definitely no Bermuda Shorts!

My favorite destination!
Sorry that you had such difficulties finding camp sites, but overall you seem to have had a great time. C'est la vie!

Being sent from pillar to post in search of campsites was a blessing in disguise, leading to the discovery of some magical places we might never have visited. One might be tempted to call it serendipity had it not been for the fact you could throw an old boot over your shoulder and it would invariably land in some previously unheard of medieval village!

Love the south of France, but that summer high season is a bear for finding places to stay--glad you found those campgrounds. Just so you don't feel alone, I've been barred from lots of hot springs in Europe and South America when wearing shorts and a camisole. Now, I've always got my bathers in tow. So bizarre!

Beautiful part of the world. Truth is I'd wear a mankini if it meant they'd have me back!

When in Rome...I mean France, Ha!
The scenery is stunning. The views, the foods, the wine...ah the joys. I would love to have seen a video of your conversation with the lifeguard. Priceless.

I wish I had a copy of that video too! Not sure it would help me to understand the French aversion to Bermuda Shorts, though?

Eze
Lovely Eze photos! It looks exactly like the sort of place in which we could easily spend a lazy summer :)

A lazy summer in the South of France.
I think we probably share that fantasy with half the known world! Itinerant campers and Monaco residents are the unlikely bedfellows who seem to be able to pull this off.

Brings back Memories
I really enjoyed reading this blog and it bought back wonderful memories of our time there last year, you even stayed on some of the same campsites which were empty on our travels!

Brings back Memories
Have you found the secret to a magical season when the traffic is lighter, the campsites are freer and yet the climate and landscape are still as enthralling? If so, I fear this may fall outside of my officially designated vacation periods :-(

Childhood memories
People used to say, it was a shame they wouldn't remember most of this. Truth is they don't. But I like to think these experiences contribute to the people they will become. They do however both remember and "love the Philippines", as this was the last country we visited!
