We had a fantastic travel day. We were picked up at home by Anthony's limo at 3:00pm and went to DIA. Everything went perfectly. We were the 1st in line at the Lufthansa counter to check our bags, walked to gate A45 and waited for boarding for our long flight to Frankfurt Germany. Jim activated his old blackberry storm to use on this trip because it has a sim card that works internationally whereas his HTC thunderbolt does not. He totally forgot features of the phone because he has not used it in over a year so he had to quick call Verizon to remember how to turn it off! Too funny.
Boarding began and we now always board with the special needs group. Works for Me! We were in seats 27 H&K. We really wanted to fly business class but the airfare was more than double coach @ $1,500+ each so we sat in the back. Ugh. At least we had 2 seats together, window and aisle. We took off on time at close to 6:00pm MST. It was a really nice flight, I love Lufthansa. Free wine! I read my kindle, Game of Thrones, and Jim tried to watch a movie. Dinner was served, we went to the restroom, took a swig from our sleeper helper and prepared for an uncomfortable nights sleep. I dozed off first, woke to shift my position and realized that the cabin lights were off, I turned off my video screen too and went back to sleep. It wasn't the best of sleep but at least we both seemed to get a fairly good rest. After they served breakfast we went downstairs to the restrooms and refreshed, brushed our teeth and I added some color to my cheeks. We landed in Frankfurt at 11:45am and got off flight #1 on our way to France.
We had a 4 hour lay over while we waited for our flight to Marseilles FR. We went to an internet store to see if we could buy a sim card for our iPad but they said we needed to get it in France to work there. So we went to Starbucks and enjoyed a frappacino. They had coconut-chocolate which Jim enjoyed and I stuck with my light option with non-fat milk and no whip, it was still yummy. We wandered about, went back through security, split a panini for lunch and went to our gate in terminal 1, gate B13. It was quiet there so we were able to stretch out and we each took a nap. We boarded our flight to Marseilles and enjoyed the easy 1 1/4 hour flight.
We landed and went to baggage claim hoping our bags made it all the way from Denver. Hooray, here they come! I had arranged for a driver to meet us at the airport and drive us to Avignon and Hotel du Lavarin. We called Patrice Philbin to make sure he was there at the airport to meet us. I thought Patrice was a female from my emails but when Jim called and a man answered, we realized it was a HE not a she! Hahaha. He was quite charming and was waiting for us outside baggage claim with a sign with our last name and off we went to his nice Audi. It was a lovely 1+ hour ride but we were very tired.
We checked in to the Hotel du Lavarin and the hotel concierge, Guillieme (pronounced William) was very delightful and charming. He got our iPad logged in to their wi-fi network and helped us to our room. They are renovating this hotel and we got the best and newest room, #145. We were so tired and decided to dine right here at the hotel out on the lovely terrace. We ordered a very nice bottle of red wine and dinner. Beautiful evening. By 9:00pm we came up, got ready for bed and swiftly fell sound asleep. Best sleeper helper ever, a whole bottle of good French wine! Long day but totally worth it!!
