What a bruise I have today!! As anticipated it is HUGE - about the size of my hand - and black as! I am massaging in the magic cream that I bought from Mark the last time I had a massage. It contains arnica which is supposed to help to break up the bruising??! We'll see.
We negotiated several more locks before and during breakfast this morning. Each lock takes the Elodie about 11 metres higher and there are 12 small, narrow locks to be negotiated along this section of the Canal du Nord and one 3.5 mile tunnel.
After sharing several locks with another barge ahead of us, Zac briefly moored the Elodie so that we could head off on our bikes for Peronne. The weather forecast was better for today, but that ended up being very misleading!! When we stopped at about noon to eat some food - in preparation for the big hill going into Peronne - it started to drizzle.
Unfortunately if continued to drizzle for the rest of our ride to Peronne!! At least is wasn't windy today. On the plus side, we rode into Peronne at about 1.30pm - just before the
rain really started pouring down. Bernie and I had just made it into the War Museum when we noticed that it was no longer drizzling, but raining.
Nina asked us to meet her back at the Tourist Information Centre at 3.00pm so that she could take us to the Elodie. When we met her at 3.00pm she had to tell us that the Elodie had experienced some engine trouble and wouldn't be in Peronne until about 5.00pm. At 5.00pm the Elodie was still about an hour out of town. With Peronne not being all that big we had to bide our time in the cafe/bar beside the Tourist Information Centre drinking beers, wines and hot chocolates. There was no way I was drinking alcohol before I rode my bike back to the barge!! It was already wet for an added degree of difficulty, I certainly did not need to be tipsy or drunk in charge of my bike!
Another fabulous dinner! With so many locks to negotiate and the engine troubles, I don't know when Sander found time to cook for us?! Geoff and Elke walked into town after dinner because Elke spent the day on the boat
and hadn't seen Peronne. There is a foursome playing Bridge, Bernie is processing photos and I am writing my travel diary. I still don't know when that is going to be uploaded to the blog, but I continue to record what we have been doing in the hope that it will be possible to add it to the blog eventually?!
While we were in town this afternoon, Bernie purchased a SIM for €15.00 hoping that we can use it in the mi-fi. He hasn't been able to get it going yet though. He might need to consult with Sander to see if he has enough French to translate what needs to be done to activate the SIM. At worst it will be a waste of €15.00 on a chip that won't do anything for us?!
