Arriving in God's country!Arriving in God's country!Arriving in God's country!

We are sooooooo excited - we have landed!
Bonjour!

Just as you were all wondering where we are - I thought it was time to check in and update you. We took our time driving down to the Haute Pyrenees. It was a pleasure to drive off motorway and take our time looking at all France has to offer on the way. Plus we saved about 100 euros in toll charges so Monsieur was tres content!

We found it quite difficult to get on wifi on the way down as we don't believe in paying for it. So hence the delay in getting properly started with the blog. However, we aim to be more regular from now on.

Abbaye de Valloires was simply divine - pardon the pun. It is a 12th century Cistercian Abbey in the Department of Somme. Today it is managed by the Association de Valloires and they look after children remanded by the courts and those with challenging behaviour. To fund this project they open the Abbey to visitors between March and November and let out rooms all year round.

We stayed there on our first night and have now put some pictures up to let you see for yourself. The

rooms look over the gardens or courtyards and they are magnificent. We thoroughly recommend a stopover there, its location offers a variety of interesting things to do and see, and is only an hours drive from Calais. However, you HAVE to check in by 5pm or you wont get in so bear this in mind.

On Friday we set off for Tours - a long drive but it helped us get ahead of ourselves. We booked into a quirky little hotel - the type you only find in France. It was very cheap, with a very good bed, spotlessly clean, nice helpful staff, so if you are looking for a stopover travelling South it is recommended. See pictures of murials (sic) in bedroom with matching lamps and curtains, also the stone carpet with matching skirting boards! Bought ourselves lovely picnic goodies from nearby supermarket and had a bottle of wine and picnic in our chamber.
