Great advantage to travelling to the Dover on a Sunday is no traffic holdups.

Really rather a wet drive and felt rather sorry as we got near London as the Queen was having a 90th Birthday street party on the mall and we were driving through heavy rain.

At least it was much warmer than on the first attempt at a holiday, 11 days ago.

Arrived beautifully early at Dover, nicely in time to go pretty well straight onto the earlier ferry. Not even time to eat our sandwiches (looked forward to my egg butty all the way down fron hone as unable to eat the last lot which Bob had so carefully made).

We were in Calais by early afternoon and at our Campsite (Chateau Camping de la Bien Assise) within the hour. Last stayed here in 2007 and just as good now as it was then.

Better even as I was feeling so well recovered (apart from my still very croaky voice which is a bit of a problem when I actually need to speak to people such as campsite reception) that I went to the covered, heated pool and swam my 20 lengths. First swim since we were in Tenerife in early February.

The sun very kindly popped out for a while just long enough for a visit to the campsite bar. Really must get some euros tomorrow. Think I have a total of €6 which won't get us far but when we do one-nighter campsite stops I usually have to pay cash and we hadn't thought that we needed more currency as we used some on the aborted trip.

At last we feel we are on our June summer holiday. Weather forecast is not particularly good for next few days but better the way we are headed which is to the west coast. Inland, Paris area is forecast bad storms and they've already had far too much rain abd flooding in last 2 weeks. Think we timed our days at home very well.

Please excuse any typos in this series of blogs. My right hand is not operating as it should following a nerve damaging steroid injection April last year which has left me with a numb thumb and 2 numb fingers. Am also in the middle of Radiotherapy for Depuytren's Disease which may or may not alleviate the nerve problem. I'll let you know after the second set of sessions in July.
