Montmartre:
Anvers/Abbesses Metros
Climb the stairs or ride the fernicular to the great white Basilica of the Sacred Heart - Sacre Coeur. Great views of Paris, atmospheric in the evening.

Wander around the Places du Tertre (artists square). Perhaps have your likeness taken.

Enjoy French Onion Soup with a cheesy crouton and a glass of red in a café.

Evening. If you don't mind risqué and paying a lot, how about Moulin Rouge? (Red Windmill)

(Montmartre can be a bit seedy so watch your stuff.)

What I would really love to do in Paris, however, is to somehow experience my own "Midnight in Paris" time slip moment. This is one of my favourite Woody Allen films. Whenever I watch the DVD , the music in particular evokes my own memories and senses:

The smell of freshly brewed coffee, the buttery taste of warm croissants and jam, the light of the city even on a rainy day, the bustle of modernity built on centuries of memory. Memories that are good and bad.

The nearest I managed was spending a New Year's Eve in a Montparnasse restaurant, enjoying a wonderful meal, champagne and wine, listening and dancing to an Edith Piaf style singer - La Mere, La vie en Rose; followed by the traditional honking of car horns and fireworks to welcome in the new year. Bonne Annee.
