The next morning I awoke at 3.30am. Obviously jet lag was kicking in, unfortunately it stayed with me the whole trip – not once did I sleep past 5.30am and we were usually up til midnight. Still I was never particularly tired during the day, too much to see and do.
This time we walked the opposite way down Rue Dauphine and stopped at a cafe named Le Nesle. My daughter is an egg lover, and unfortunately this cafe did not do eggs so that was our one and only visit there. Still, we had a typical French breakfast which was very nice. We then stopped at the tabac over the road to purchase our carnet of Metro tickets. I was a bit nervous about using the Metro as I had not used it before but I didn’t need to worry. We caught the RER to the Musee d’Orsay station with no trouble at all, it was fantastic. Thanks so much to everyone on Trip Advisor for all their tips regarding this. We activated our Museum Passes and jumped the huge lines at the d’Orsay and spent a wonderful couple of hours inside. We were then running a
little late for our reserved lunch at Le Jules Verne, so hopped back on the RER to Champs de Mars Tour Eiffel and walked towards the tower.
Even though it was a cold, overcast day, the crowds were amazing. It was wonderful to bypass the long lines and go straight to the Le Jules Verne entrance. Within minutes we were whisked to the restaurant on the second floor where we had a wonderful table right by the window overlooking the Champs de Mars. The view was stupendous, we could even see Notre Dame in the distance.
We really enjoyed our meals. The food was great, with the exception of my steak which I felt was slightly overdone. Still very enjoyable though, but also very expensive. After we ate we went out onto the viewing platform. We considered going to the top of the tower, but the queues were ridiculous and it was freezing so we didn’t bother. Here is a link to my Trip Advisor review of Le Jules Verne:
http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g187147-d719141-r123424865-Le_Jules_Verne-Paris_Ile_de_France.html After leaving the tower, we caught the RER back to Invalides and walked from there to the Rodin Museum. We
then walked to Les Invalides to see Napolean’s Tomb and into the Army Museum. My husband and son loved the Army Museum so we spent quite a bit of time in there. Our son is not really into art, so this made up a bit for the morning at the d’Orsay lol.
We then headed back to our hotel for a glass of wine, before doing a night cruise with Le Vedettes de Pont Neuf. I did a day cruise with this company last year and absolutely loved it, however I was a bit disappointed with the night version. Firstly the commentator had an incredibly strong accent, which meant no-one could understand her English at all and secondly, it was raining so we were unable to sit up the top and the rain was so heavy on the glass that we couldn’t really see. I think I found the views of London at night later in our holiday much nicer than the ones of Paris. We then headed over the road to La Main a La Pate for some quite good Italian food for dinner.
