So our drive into the city was surprisingly easy and uneventful. We drove without any problems and even had a parking spot reserved for our rental car at the train station. All we had to do was lug our luggage onto a train and then walk to our hostel in the Latin Quarter. We got settled in our hostel, it isn't glamorous but it will do the trick for the week. It is right in the Latin Quarter just a two minute walk from Notre Dame so we are really central and it is pretty cheap. We have a room to ourselves and share the bathrooms and showers.
We spent the first day back in Paris exploring our neighbourhood. We were especially happy to be staying in this area because of all the options for cheap and affordable food. So we headed out for lunch and found a great spot to get a Gyro, which Rob had been missing since Santorini. We visited the Pantheon (which is also just down the street from our hostel) and explored some more. We had a couple drinks at a piano bar in the latin quarter during happy hour and then went for a
lovely french dinner. Rob decided to try some authentic French cuisine, so he tried escargot and coq au vine followed by an espresso for dessert.
Sunday morning we visited the Catacombs, I had seen them before on my last trip but was excited to go again with Rob to see them. It is a really creepy feeling to be underground with so many bones. Afterwards we headed to Sacre Coeur to buy some artwork and explore the area which was very busy on a Sunday. We then strolled the streets of the Rive Gauche and I bought some French Disney books at one of the books stands. The street is full of vendors selling old books, posters, paintings and unique items. There were alot of old Vogue magasines and fashione magasines that had never been opened and many very old books, very cool. We spent the evening eating dinner with a bottle of wine near the River Seine just under the Notre Dame.
Monday morning was my favourite day of the whole trip so far. We woke up early to get up the Eiffel Tower and beat some of the line ups. We went straight to the top
with the elevator and made our way down slowly using the stairs whenever we could. We decided to have lunch on the Eiffel Tower since one of our registry items included dinner on the Eiffel Tower but unfortunately that tour was booked for weeks. So we had an amazing lunch at Le 58 Tour Eiffel, a glass of wine and some amazing desserts! It was awesome. We then spent the rest of the day wandering around the city, shopping on the Champs Elysees. We had another nice picnic dinner along the river and then walked along the river. It was a great day.
Only a couple days left of our trip. I will definitely be sad to leave Paris.
