What an adventure so far! It started with our taxi driver from home to Pearson nearly killing us because he missed the airport ramp on the highway and almost sideswiped a truck!! Fortunately, Robb said the universal word for "watch where you're going" .... "DUDE!!!?!!" and taxi driver swerved in time to avoid 5 deaths (6 if you count the driver).
At Pearson, we enjoyed the Maple Leaf Lounge, but Ann ALMOST got arrested because she ran into a friend, Ann K, in the lounge, and decided to help Ann K carry her luggage over to where we were already sitting. Turns out the luggage did not belong to Ann K!
We should have known what lay ahead when Jonathan broke the light above his seat on the plane. We tried to discreetly ignore that this happened but Jon shouted "I broke the light!".
Ever heard of "Planes, Trains and Automobiles"? Our journey from Pearson to Europe had a similar feel ... 6 hour plane ride, followed by a 1 hour underground subway ride and then a 2 hour train ride (Chunnel), brought us to Paris, France. Along the way, we ate overpriced food - Robb did not
The Arch
Almost died crossing the street. understand the waiter at the St. Pancras restaurant very well (yes, St. Pancras is in London but for some reason, we ended up in a French restaurant at the train station) - the waiter asked something to which Robb answered "yeah sure", without understanding. It turns out, he inadvertently ordered three salads (a $20 CDN mistake)! Two pies and three salads later, we were $150 CDN lighter!
Then at Chunnel station, after we exited the train, Jon let go over his suitcase (accidentally of course) and it fell down the escalator wiping out an old lady who fell into the arms of our Cate. Later, we ended up drawing more attention by getting our luggage stuck in the terminal gates! Cate and Ann at the same time. Add to this the annoying alarm which wouldn't stop going off. and Jon knocking over his suitcase you get the picture.
We felt strong enough after arriving at the hotel, to walk along the Champs Elysee to, of all things, look for a McDonalds. Or as they say here, 'MAC DON AHLDZ'. Five Royale Deluxe meals later @ 37 EU, we felt energetic enough to almost kill ourselves crossing the congested
French Abbey Road
Cate was smart enough to hide because the three stooges obviously have never seen the album cover roundabout to see the Arch de Triomphe before we realized there was an underground (safe) walkway to get there. We are such good parents!! RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN!!!!
Robb took us on a fantastic, scary, unpredictable - can you say "lost"? - walking tour of Paris. Eventually we found a map and made it back to our hotel.
Today, we did the Versailles Palace tour. Boy did they wear some cheesy clothes back then. We had a great Italian meal on the patio of a local restaurant (Marche St. Honore), then restaurant hopped to a cafe where Sophie had a crepe with banana and chocolate and Cate had a whole bottle of rose wine - she just turned 19 on August 5 so she's entitled 😊 Our hotel is close to the Place de la Concorde (the place where Marie Antoinette and Louis the whatever was beheaded - awesome!) ... had a great walk looking at fountains and stuff. Cate and Robb especially liked the two rats we met along the way. We now know where RATatouille came from!!
Sorry for the late post. This is only night two and there's more that happened that we
Versailles
Lost in the gardens of Versailles don't have time or space to write about here - can't wait to tell you all when we get back.
