Day 2 - Paris
Wake up early for our free day in Paris. I have croissant for breakfast and then we hop on the bus to get Paris. We get dropped off at the Place de la Concord. I group up with Brendan, Trent and a bunch of girls who I haven’t spoke to before, I gather from early conversations my group contains Nicole and Kat (who are travelling together), Tahlia and Jaala (who are travelling together) Jacqui and Lucy.
We head out towards the opera house we saw yesterday and come across a fairly pretty church which we passed on the coach yesterday. Took some photos and headed to the opera house.
The opera house was amazing, we went inside and the interior was so intricate and pretty. At the top there was a ballroom and it was pretty much entirely gold. It was immense. I took loads of photos and some of the girls span around the ballroom.
We then head towards the Louvre, passing through the lovely Jardins des Tuileries. We stop for shots by the famous Louvre pyramid. We don’t stop to visit the Louvre as the queue is massive and the decision not
to, meant we had more time to see other stuff. Next stop lunch, where we find a backstreet cafe/bar and I have a nice steak with chips.
After lunch we pop across the River Seine to Notre Dame Cathedral. The outside is amazing with the huge stained glass window. We go inside and it’s even more beautiful than its exterior, plus it’s free to look inside (which is always a bonus).
After this we catch the Metro (very similar to the London tube) to half way up the Champs Elysees. We catch a street dance show near the arc de triomphe and then take photos of the arc. We also take time to admire the traffic around the craziest roundabout in the world (well for my Sheffield friends it only just beats Park Square).
We then decide to venture towards tour Eiffel (the Eiffel tower). On the way we encounter some protest about Israel/Palestine, which we manage to avoid. When we reach the Eiffel tower half our party need the toilet, some disappear for the optional bike tour, so only 5 of us make it up to the top of the old tower. The lift up is
slightly scary but once at the top the view was amazing over Paris. I also take the opportunity to use the toilet facilities at such a height.
It takes ages to get down but when we do we meet up with other members of our group and have a picnic. The food was nice and washed down with cheap beer from the shady cheap tatt men.
Next stop the cabaret show. We have upper tier seats and half a bottle of wine each. The show starts and it’s pretty much topless girls from the start (and some topless blokes who doesn’t really add to the quality of the show). There is also a trapeze artist a juggler and the most amazing unicyclist, who flicks multiple tea cups and saucers onto his head using his foot, whilst unicycling. This pretty much outdid all the topless girls combined for entertainment value.
We head back to the hotel and a few of us pop in for a few beers in a bar next to the hotel, which lock us in as it’s after hours. All in all Paris was pretty cool and I’m pleased at how much we packed in
to our day.
