Today is the big day! Katy spent the night with Sarah last night and they called this morning to get Bethia and I out for coffee and pastries. Sarah is very relaxed and happy, which is great, not stressed at all. All the girls met at Sarah's apt at 11 ish with clothes in tow. Dan had to help me carry things over as I had my gown, shoes, etc plus all the food for lunch, food for the photo shoot after the ceremony, champagne, glasses - a lot! Laure arrived to do hair & make up at 11:30 and it was fascinating to watch her at work. What a beautiful job she does - Sarah was probably the most beautiful bride I have ever seen. Photographer arrived at 1:30 and that was fun too - the whole morning was a lot of fun in the “red tent”. Took some good videos. Dan arrived about 2:30 looking amazingly handsome in his tux and all the girls except for Sarah, Dan and Katy left for the church. The ceremony was lovely and moving and we were able to capture it all on video. A beautiful wedding, in a beautiful
setting surrounded by family. Can't get much better than that! Since we took videos of the ceremony, no still pictures to put here -- sorry!
Then after the champagne toast in the nave of the church - a lot of fun with all of us, Sarah's friend Louise, a British young woman who nannies for the exiled royal family of Lebanon there in Paris. Amazing! She had just returned from a couple of weeks vacationing with the family on the Armani yacht - yikes! Also there were Scott and Melanie, the little girl Sarah nannied for in Paris and her father.
We did some pictures of family in the church and then Sarah and Jon left for their photo shoot around Paris. The rest of us went back to the apartment to rest and Katy and I cleaned up Sarah and Jon's apartment, and sprinkled the bed with rose petals as well as left chocolates for them. By the time we were done, it was time to get dressed again and head over to Le Crillon hotel for the reception. Wow, what an amazing building! Story has it that Marie Antoinette took piano lessons there and I can
believe it - the rooms are like Versailles but more beautiful as they are not so ornate, but the same 50' ceilings, gilt, carvings, marble, etc. - truly each room is a work of art and fit for a queen or in this case, the Princess Bride.
The reception was incredibly beautiful - I cannot imagine what more one could want! View from the room was of the Place de la Concorde - the hotel is right next to it. Eiffel Tower is across the River clearly visible. At night, the Tower is lit, the Place is lit and it is a bit of magic all around. We ate at a beautiful table, hors d'oeuvres were tuna tartare served in little push-up popsicle servers, and fois gras “poppers” I call them. They were little squares of hot pastry with melted fois gras in them. Quite unusual and delicious, but rich. Then we sat down to each the appetizer which was crab heaped on top of a green mousse. Dan said isn't this avocado?? In my best Queen of Denial mode, I said, no heavens, the French don't eat avocado, it must be coriander as the menu did not say
a word about avocado! Wrong!!! But, enough said about that and my avocado allergy! By the time dessert was served, I was able to have some as I could not pass up the opportunity to have apricot sorbet and a chocolate-caramel cake. Undoubtedly the best sorbet I've ever had!
We got some wonderful videos of the reception, the first dances, Sarah and Dan's dance, and her dance with Bob -- to the strains of "When you Wish Upon a Star" as it was Bob's fondest wish that they marry some day! Sarah and Jon make an extremely handsome couple to say the least! Both are extremely attractive people and together, all dressed up, they look like something out of a magazine or movie! They were very sweet to watch, obviously so much in love and over the moon with happiness. As a consequence, we all got to enjoy a very memorable and wonderful experience.
We got home about midnight and so ended a remarkable, very special and lovely day for all.
