We arrived at our hotel (Newport Bay) around lunchtime, checked in, found the room and headed to the park and Fantasy Land for the afternoon. The hotel was straight from the US. Even the ice machines in the corridors. We weren’t in France at all, apart from the accented English being spoken.
To get to fantasyland, much to Jays excitement, we had to get on a bus, and here was a few tears when the journey came to an end far too quickly. But all cheered up when hitting Disneyland main street we fell upon the Mary Poppins show, with Penguins and all. Can you believe Karl had never seen Mary Poppins, so the kids promised to sit down with daddy when we got home to watch it, despite the loud Cannon bangs Asha hates from the Admirals house.
We walked up along Main Street taking it all in, towards the “How pretty is that mama” when they spotted the Fantasyland castle. We all soaked it all in, the glitz, the glam, the over-the-topness of it all. It was lunch time so headed straight to the Italian pizza place and got something for the kids, the food is pretty
poor where ever you go, so the grown ups struggled after their gourmet holiday in France. And then with little to no queue we went on “It’s a small world” with that very catchy little tune, that stays with you for days after. But it was amazing, in these little boats, being taken around all the countries of the world watching little dolls dance in national costumes. Sound a bit weird and Sci-fi, but honestly it was cute and we all loved it, our favourite ride. Then we went to catch the Lion King show, can you believe, yes the Lion King show. It was 30 mins of bliss for both kids, Jay cowering a little into his dads lap when the wilder beast came down the gorge. We loved the bit of the show, where Puma talked from the box, and all the favourite songs were sung.
After the show we decided to head back to the hotel, passing Winnie the pooh and his friends wandering about town. Both kids were allowed to buy a souvenir from the shop. Asha got, yes guess, yet another Simba, but this one wrapped in a leaf blanket, whilst Jay went for
a cuddly Pluto. We had a swim, and enjoyed a very good buffet dinner in the hotel. Mummy enjoyed three helping of the potato soup!, watched the last part of Monsters on TV and went to bed. Girls bed, boys bed!
The next day, what excitement! We had to get up for a 9.00am breakfast with the Disney characters. Asha hid under the table when Captain Cook came around, the only person that really got her out was Mini mouse, whilst Jay really enjoyed the Squirrels and Pluto, especially as he now had one. Breakfast was followed by getting the train from Main street station, a old steam train replica that travels through the Grand Canyon and takes you to where ever you want to go. Our destination was fantasyland for a quick dash to get our Peter Pan ride tickets and then a head up to the Pinnochio ride to get on a little train that took us round a rather too dark and too scary ride. Mummy just remembered too late how scary the story actually was, so some of the scenes and music were a little too horrific. After this we needed to stay outside so
got Asha and Jay to take us around the Mad Hatters maze and figure the way out. Then the Peter Pan ride, with Asha screaming she didn’t want to do it, but a heartless mummy making her.( But she was so proud of herself afterwards that she had.) We were flying Pirate boats, and we flew through the sky looking at all the scenes of Peter Pan. We needed lunch so headed to Main Street, hot dogs, after which we noticed Jay had lost Pluto somewhere in the morning, but he didn’t care too much, nobody took Appletons place.
After hotdogs a playground in the Adventure area, a walk around Captian Hooks boat, a trip on a Steam boat around the lake, an amazing ride where both kids got to drive their own cars around a race track!, and the finale of the big Parade! Then we waited 20 mins to get the train back for Jay to the exit. Packed up with two more souvenirs and four very tired people we were homeward bound.
