8 Aug - We arrive at Gare du Nord in Paris late afternoon then take a few metros to Bercy to catch the 1900 overnight train to Venice.

Pur-chase some supplies ie beer (!) for the journey then start to get to know the tour group.

First off, my cabin buddies...
Alison (Ali) who is Scottish, early 40's and works for S&N and is my room buddy for the whole trip. She currently lives in York but spends a lot of time in Edinburgh so we have lots to talk about.
Georgia who is Canadian (with Greek relatives) who is just a few years older than me.
Renee who is American (also with Greek relatives and somehow related to Georgia - can't remember how though!) and late 40's....reminds me a lot of Geraldine and that's not just coz of their age, being North American and having high toilet standards!!!!! We all hit it off right away and the beer and red wine starts to flow. It is soooooo reminiscent of Trans-Siberian life, and yet again, my cabin appears to be the party cabin 😊

The rest of the group...
Pete (always watch out for the quiet ones), Ian (aka donkey - for being such a gentleman and carrying Nancy's bags during the whole trip), Diana (another drinking buddy), Alan & Sheila (stories and songs galore), Julia & Ellie (mother and daughter combo), George & Loz (from Oz, v quiet couple...not!!!), Sue and Marg (also from Oz, also drinking buddies) and Nancy (from US, our very own pharmacist, whose knowledge was much in demand by the time we reached Syria but more of that later!). Can't say too much about these guys as they've all got the blog link 😊 But can I just say a HUGE thanks guys for making it a wonderful trip and a great start to my Grand Adventure, hope to see some of you again en route.

Anyway, enough of the introductions.

The alcohol continued to flow and we enjoyed the first of several overnight train trips.
