Tours cathedral
We are in Tours in the Loire valley, another area I've never visited. Since we skipped the Bordeaux wine touring because of the wild fires we thought the Loire would be a good alternative. After a little bit of research we settled on staying in Tours rather than elsewhere as there is more accommodation here and some other interesting things to do in the town, but I'm not exactly sure what we'll do for wine tasting options are until I speak to someone at the tourist office.

On the Friday we check out the town, stock up with maps from the tourist office and find a bike hire. The cathedral here is impressive as is the old town. At the Gouin hotel (now a free museum) there is an interesting free art exhibition by the artist JonOne.

The Saturday is our wine tour day. Every country has a different approach. Here at the larger estates you can book a formal tour but when they are open you are also able just to drop in and taste. Tasting are free though there is some expectation you will purchase. Interestingly all the wineries shut for about 2 hours over lunch and are closed on Sundays which in Australia would be their busiest day! We cycle to the Vouvray region about 10km from Tours along the North bank of the Loire and visit 4 different estates. It's another very hot day so this is more than enough. One of these cellar doors is open tomorrow so we will drop in with the car on our way out of town.
