up early (7am) and it's gorgeous again, our weather luck has been incredible). packed and double checked our gear, enjoyed some tea and breakfast with Rob and Terry and disembarked Armida with Rob and Terry leading us through Dole to the train station. I bought our tickets for Lausanne and we met a nice lady who saw my mandolin case and asked me if it was a violin (her daughter played concert violin), she had returned to the area near Dole where she grew up. She had formerly lived in Oxford with her husband; she was on her way to visit her daughter. we took our luggage and crossed over two sets of tracks to the quai 3 and not too long after were reprimended by a guard for not using the tunnel . . . jeu desole was all we could say. the train was a few minutes late but a swift 90 minute ride to Lausanne was gorgeous. we departed and found the tourism office in the station and bought tickets for a city tour tomorrow and booked a reservation at a local hotel not far from the station. with a hotel booking we received free metro passes! so

this was the stop before Lausanne. huge sawmills here we headed down to the lake to see what was going on. not a breath of wind and the mountains across the way are picturesque. not sure what Geneva is like but Lausanne is beautiful. we found a boulangerie and walked along the shore to a spot where we could enjoy the view and have lunch. not far away we found the Olympic Headquarters (which are under reconstruction) but a temporary museum was free so we checked it out. came back to the room and took some naps.
