Day Trip to France

We spent Friday, 11 Jan, in Biarritz, France, which is a mere 30km or so from San Sebastian. The town bustles in the summertime when many Europeans flock to its lovely beach.

La Grande Plage
Biarritz's main beach, La Grande Plage. The clouds in the background make for a nice setting, but signal what was to come: StormWatch 2008. YIKES! It began raining around 12:30pm and poured buckets all day long. With the hurricane-force winds, it was impossible to escape the horizontal driving rain. We failed to watch the morning news or check the Doppler 7000, and so, were painfully unprepared for the storm. What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger, or makes you heavier because your tailored jeans are soaked through and weigh at least 12lbs.

Port Vieux
Also known as the Old Port. This was tiny, quaint, and adorable. I've nothing funny to say about it.

Port Vieux Cays
These cays were constructed to protect the fishing boats during winter storm swells. These really are more sabots than they are boats, which must explain why the port is so small.

Lunch!
My two objectives for traveling to Biarritz were, in order: (1) Practice what little I know of French; and (2) Get down on some moules frites. I happy to report that I achieved both, even at the same time. Lunch was comprised of salade la paris, moules frites marineres, une bouteille (grande, bien sur!) de vin blanc, et deux cafes au lait. How obnoxious am I?! It was all fantastic.

French Women Don't Get Fat
Obviously not! Look at her...her legs are skinnier than her dog's. That pooch needs to be put on a strict Basque diet of cigarettes and more cigarettes (more on the cigarette obsession later)

Ace-Man Plays Rugby in Biarritz
Not really. Who can resist a cut-out? Particularly when it's a torrential downpour outside. Is it me or do the ears line up perfectly?
