Since arriving back in Hämennlinna, i don't think i've had time to think let alone stop. The first week back i visited a place i can never pronounce, (and i cant even remember what it sounds like right now,) to watch the models for the fashion show which was nice, i love that the fashion class here offers everyone a chance to do promotion-y things as well as all the making side to fashion.
Halloween was the best, ended up taking the bathroom cabinet off the wall to use the mirror, painting everyones faces- steaming and then sobered myself up riding the 3km into town to the bloody bar... Found a drink that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and tastes a million times better than beer... Long drink, dont ask me whats in it because i have no idea... but its cheap and doesn't taste like cat piss! That was the thursday night, thank god i didnt have lessons on the friday because life was a struggle... For some stupid reason we ended up out on friday...Disaster in its self, there were 10 of us dressed up.. and when i say we were dressed up.. we went the full
hog... ripped t-shirts, facepaint, BIN BAGS!? of course everyone in Hämeenlinna... hadn't dressed up so we looked, as per, like a bunch of complete planks. However riding home was a new kind of talent, i got on the bike, put my feet on the peddles and rode straight into a parked van... lets be honest i have the balance of a one legged donkey sober so... what did anyone really expect...For the rest of the weekend, Lisbeth and i went into town to the new shopping center, they've opened a Marks and Spencer in town... out of all the small cities in the world it would have to Hämeenlinna, i could just see Nan walking around buying her christmas biscuits ahah.
Its been so long that since i've had to do actual uni work it was quite nice on saturday to sit and do work, even if i my finnish is about as good as my welsh and probably my english too.. On the note of Languages on sunday i felt like death, the drinking caught up to me and after a run i came home and fell asleep watching harry potter until someone came in and mentioned that
everyone was cooking, (under Gamzees instructions) Turkish food. It tasted amazing and was quite nice to all chill in the living room.
We planned to go to Talinn on the thursday as Beth was leaving on the Friday, sooo you can imagine the fury when we got an email saying that the Ferry was cancelled due to a storm... at this point the weather was, dry and sunny... so, 'Due to a storm," wasn't really a good enough excuse! After hours of debating what we could do and i mean hours, Beth and i decided we would cycle down to the spar about 2 km away to see how much it would be for a day... rode down in the freezing cold, got too intimidated by the enormity and that everyone was dressed to the nines and we were in ski jackets and hadn't brushed our hair... took us so long to cycle home because we were arsing around taking photos of the lake that by the time we got in thursday was a right off anyways... Beths last day, we woke up late, eventually walked the 6 km to the tower and as we were walking the snow
started to fall, we stood at the top of the tower 236 ft and everything was starting to freeze and to get white it was amazing!
Everyone else had been to class that day and Moritz, Marlose, Jonathan and i had missed the Finnish culture class and the snow had really stuck by this point soo for some stupid reason we decided to walk back up to the tower... the whole of the forest was white because of the snow... the lake was like a big black pit and it was fab!!
By the time we had returned everyone had finished university and all wanted to play! We found toboggans in the laundry room...(i felt like i'd been run over by a bus on friday)... then the drinking started... besides the point we had already had a drink on route to the tower... So you imagine the state on a lightweight like me after, a round of chicken goggles, some spanish board game that resulted in someone swimming in the snow in a bathing suit, (not me thank god!) Then everyone decided a spur of the moment ride to the bar...i got on the bike to ride down to the
bar and you can imagine the state on me and it was still heavily snowing...it wasn't ideal, about 200 yards down the road.. i hit ice and instead trying to control the bloody bike.. i just launched my self off it into the snow and of course being me i just laid there, in the snow, for a good 3 minutes absolutely howling laughing and not being able to get up... this resulted in looking like i'd peed myself in my jeans. All in all it was a brilliant night and surprisingly i was happier riding home than i was riding there... NOT!! Seriously thought i was going to die on friday morning.., Hurling hannah was back with a vengeance and i didnt think i'd ever be able to leave... however!! I made it out and attempted for some stupid reason to, "Ride" my bike to the new lake... nope.. didnt happen... i ended up basically pushing the flaming thing to the old lake because every time i peddled i nearly died on the ice and snow.. Really i should be accompanied by someone at all times.. i'm a danger to myself.. and this includes cooking.. for some reason, everything
i cook here, i burn. What is going on!!
Yesterday was much more productive, we went to Helsinki Zoo, ( Me, Lisbeth, Marlose and Irina.) It was a really good, girly day, we ooed and arr'ed and moaned how little space the birds had (mostly just lisbeth 😉) and then went for lunch, shopped and made it home in time for a movie night and a chill.
Right now the snow is melting... theres still a fair bit on the grass and pavements even though the majority has been pushed aside to allow walkways and roads but its amazing and the best part, everything carries on!!! Schools don't shut here unless it's minus thirty, people were still running, still driving, still drinking, still dressing up and wearing heels-this i'm very jealous of as when i went out on Thursday... i wore thermals, jeans a jumper and WALKING BOOTS!! What is my life coming too... What i'm trying to say is Britain definitely worries too much about the snow, it comes,it goes and really if my parents ever rush out to by 90000 tins of tomato soup, "Just incase" of snow... i'll book them a flight too see winter
!
So now for a cosy night in clean bedding- yes family i do work the washing machine here and attempt to cook shepherds pie without a casserole dish...
miss you all!
