i'm so easily amused! first it was kiek in de kok, now it's a supermarket chain in estonia that is called 'konsum'. so yeah, add an E on the end of that and you get me chuckling. so that, plus me eating crisps that have a pirate on the packet, and im getting strange looks for my chuckling. am spending a quiet evening in me couchsurfers apartment, watching some strange film about christina ricci having a lesbian affair with a murderous prostitute, who i have to say is an absolute goit. its a pretty silly. she's getting stressed because she cant get a job. shouldnt have been a whore then! thats like getting a tattoo on your face saying 'CHUMP'. or maybe i've just never had to provide before. HAH! ok, enough prostitute baiting, and back ... read more

Brothers from different Mothers When I crossed over the border into Mongolia, by train a month or so previeously, I realised that I had in fact never really crossed a border before. Taking planes, illiminates the ability to actually see border crossings and how close together most countries live. It makes you realise that in the UK we have been lucky in the past to never really have borders and no doubt it has saved out bacon on numnerous occaisions. In these fragile relationships, always held together or pushed apart by geography, politics and cultural difference, it is interseting to see when one 'country becomes the next' and what changes or, in fact doesn't. Take for example the poor old Mongolians, sandwhcihed between a rock and a hard place with Russia to the north and ... read more

So many different things have happened that I find it hard to summarize everything that I want to write about. First off, last weekend I went on Estonian tour and it was grand! Basically, that is the topic of the authors’ choice right now. The tour started on a Thursday (I know!) and lasted until Saturday evening. Not only was it fantastic to see the other kids, it was so stupendous to get to be acting like a tourist and seriously not give one ounce of thought to it! All of walked around with cameras, snapping random shots of each other, the scenery, the buildings, the… well, everything we could think of! The first stop was Tallinn. I had been there once before (not including the time that I went through there to get to Tartu ... read more

So I did a really bad job explaining some stuff during the last entry- sorry guys. Usually Rotary exchange students get two to four families that they stay with during the exchange. They change when their new club tells them that they will and it goes from there. I will be changing after Christmas and I will move to the Island of Saaremaa (the biggest island that belongs to Estonia). I will stay with the family that I am with in Tartu now until then. No worries- I can't exactly run away because it is so cold. Plus my host mum makes these really tastey potaoe caserole dishes that I just couldn't leave them. I hope that answers most of the questions. ... read more

Hello from Tartu Still in Estonia, a little further South (closer to Latvia). So, last night I had one cigarette outside the hostel, then went up to bed. There was an American guy in my room but we didn't really speak at all until just as he was heading out for a drink. I kinda wished I'd chatted with him beforehand because I wouldn't have minded a little company, but it's probably a good thing I got ltos of sleep. I had a really good sleep, and woke up this morning at 11:00. I was starving and dehydrated and, for lack of an immediate better option, I had a McChicken (hey, sometimes it has to be done!). It was right beside the vine-covered town walls, so that was cool. It was miserably cold and rainy so ... read more

Last weekend I went to Helsinki to attend a district conference. While there, I met some kids who have been there for eight months already. All of them Aussies and Kiwis (New Zealanders) of course. All of the Estonians that are living here now attended as well (except for the my Mexican friend Mariandrea), and it was a blast. We had five hours to ourselves in Helsinki... sounds like trouble, I know. The only thing was that it was way too much time. Sure two hours or even three would have been perfect, yet we get five. Alright. What do you do with a time limit of five hours in Helsinki when you don't know the place, don't speak Finnish, don't have that many euros, and it is a pretty freakin cold day. Well... first you ... read more

This entry is long overdue and I apologize. My birthday. Definitely adventurous. I went to the island of Saaremaa. Alright, before I get too much into detail, let me start at the beginning. Lea and I started off my day with giving me roses and a present (sounds like another mum I know *cough* MUM *cough*). We finally got out onto the road and were on it for about two and a half hours or so. After arriving at the harbor of Estonia and Muhu (the little island that you have to cross to get to Saaremaa), we had a small cup of coffee and a sandwich. Then we got back onto the boat and the weirdest thing happened when we did that. We didn’t LEAVE the car! It was crazy! I was so excited at ... read more

School, as it turns out, is not hard... yet. I imagine that it will be and very soon too. From what I hear, people who go to my school are loaded down with homework and have to do loads of tests all the time. Kids come from all around Estonia to come to this school because of how fantastic it is. I am taking my classes and I am not really understanding most of it yet I am getting there. I have found my dream class! I have a BRITISH STUDIES CLASS!!! How freakin amazing is that?! I get to learn about all of Great Britain! While in Estonia. Fantastically beautifully marvelous! My teacher in that class is hilariously too! He is so animated! Like someone else you know... no hints to who that is. :) ... read more

Lasted only an hour and a half long. Well, that was how long I was in class anyway. It is so different from America, yet also similar. I supposedly have eight classes in one day, and my day starts at eight. It is nice to have a later start that in New Mexico! So excited for that! So today we had an opening ceremony and there was a guy I met back in Finland who happens to be going to the same school as me. As it turns out, he is Brazilian with dark eyes, dark hair, and a darker complexion. Now, imagine us standing by each other out in front of the school, in a SEA of blondes and blue eyed people. We weren't the only ones to notice either. It was so funny to ... read more

In the evening around 6pm Mikk's brother picked me up from the hostel. I grabbed my stuff and was ready to go. The drive took about 2 hours i think and then we were at Mikk's campus. That night we stayed in the new room Mikk was moving into that semester. After helping Mikk unload all his stuff we went out to Tsink Plekk Pang for dinner for Chinese. One of his mates came by and from here the four of us went out to a bar nearby. It was pretty good fun we had a few shots and then we headed out to Maailm. Tartu is a pretty fun student town. The next day we went out and about on the town, checked out Mikk's campus, the sculpture of kissing students and the Dome Church ruins. ... read more
