While my compliant Danish friends may not approve, I am glad I did what I did today.
Flight leaves for Stockholm at 11.45 and we'll have to leave Asger's place by 9.30. I must admit I chose the place on AirBNB because it had a kids bedroom and it was within our budget. I did not know how conveniently located it was. So close to the metro line to the airport (20 mins) and city centre (10 mins) it made getting to and from airport and into the city so easy. THis place has exceeded my expectations. Thanks AirBNB!
Another perfect Danish Spring day. A change in weather up here makes all the diferrence to the day and we hve been blessed with two crackers! Jules and I went for a morning run around Frederiksberg Havn and stumbled cross the pacifier tree. A tree were parents ceremoniously attach their children's pacifiers when they no longer need them. It also had blankies and cloth comforters attached in plastic bags. Running around the local neighbourhood in the bright spring sunshine showed how much more there is to see and do and gave a glimpse of real Danish life. We agreed it
was our kind of city and we could definitely live here...in summer!
The morning run got the blood pumping and with 2 hours left in Copenhagen - I dared to dream. The need to ride burned deep in my soul and I would forever regret it if I didn't ride these streets made for two wheels. The bike racks outside the apartment are stacked with bikes and while most are locked...some aren't. Before I knew it I was on the 3 speed bike and on a designated bike path heading for the city. It's the not the bike I would choose but it did the job. It was amazing to cruise along Smallegade from Solvej to Schonsbergade and back. It would be lucky to be 5 kms but it was an invigorating 5kms. Bike lanes on both sids of the road and bikes have right of way over cars. The number of people rolling into the city centre at 8 in the morning was inspiring. Why not ride when it is faster than walking to the Metro and catching a train. Brilliant!
The legality of my actions this morning is a grey area. The bike was idle and
had not been used nor locked for days. Perhaps it is a communal bike for the use of all. Either way, it's back where it belogs and no one was put out and one man was blissfully happy. How can that be wrong?
While I'm confessing my sins, I'll mention that I used the shower gel of our host. And his shampoo and his conditioner. Idrew the line at his toothbrush. Ich Bin Ein Copenhagener! Once again I'm glad I did it and I do indeed feel and smell Norsca Fresh!
Time to board the driverless train for a delightfully short flight to Stockholm. Milla should breeze through this flight, just over an hour and she has Tivoli the Rabbit and Viking the Wolf for company.
Farvel Copenhagen.
