The day when we made it into Scandinavia via the ferry from Puttgarden in Germany to Rodbyhavn in Denmark. Incidentally the fare for a single 45 minute ride was almost as much as a return from Dover to Calais. Is this the sign of things to come?

Denmark is partly located on mainland Europe on the Jutland peninsular and partly on a series of islands, the largest of which is Zealand where Copenhagen is situated. We landed in the island area and spent an interesting afternoon exploring one of them, Mon.

Mon is known for a series of well preserved medieval churches which include simple but vibrant religious frescoes and we visited three of them and were very impressed. We stayed at Mons Klint on the far east coast of the island and had a pleasant evening walk to the limestone cliffs in the area.
