view coming into port
We arrived in Denmark in the morning. The whole country of Denmark is very flat. Apparently, the average elevation is just a little above sea level. Sadly, Claire is still in covid jail so I had to tour on my own and take pictures for both of us. Our guide was a retired school teacher who was very knowledgeable. We started at the fountain which was supposed to put on a show at 3:00. I went out after I returned from the excursion to catch it, but there was nothing to catch. We went to the old castle and stood in the courtyard. The outside is painted all white, however the courtyard side of all of the buildings are half timbered. There was a dungeon in the inside corner. The buildings are being used by the town now, and one of them is where you have to go to get a divorce. We proceeded down the road and saw the oldest house in Aalborg. The owner was apparently bragging about it, so someone built a much bigger and nicer house down the road. Almost all of the old buildings are restaurants now. We walked on cobblestones during most of the tour.

view from the balcony
It made you feel as though you had stepped back in time. The old buildings were colorful and charming. We saw the monastery which has had several different uses over the years. It is now an apartment for people over 50. Our guide told us many stories about it through the years.

We stopped at the courtyard for the old town hall, a beautiful yellow building. They still do a few government things there including civil marriages. It so happened that while we were there, a bride and groom who had just been married were in the courtyard with the wedding attendants. They said that they wished they had enough champagne for all of us. We passed the elevator for an underground museum. When they were digging up the road to expand a department store, they found lots of ruins dating back to the 900s. To preserve them, they built a museum under the road.

We stopped in a nice church that is being used today. Among the lights hanging from the ceiling, there was a boat. Apparently, people who made it safely back from journeys where they were in peril, donate replicas of

their boat to hang in the church. Somewhere nearby, we didn't go there, is a large estate that was purchased by an American company in some relation to the Danish. I, unfortunately, could not put all she said together. However, they have such good relationships with the US that they have the biggest 4th of July celebration outside of the United States there every year. People from all over come and there is always someone who makes an important speech. They have fun and games just like we do. The last stop was the building designed by the Danish architect who also designed the Sydney Opera House. . He donated his work to the city where he grew up. It looks like sailing ships.

I returned to the ship for lunch and then set out on my own looking for postcards. I walked all through the town and finally found some to purchase. I then had to find the post office to get stamps. All of the clothing stores, and they are numerous, were having sales and had racks out in the street. I got a Pic of one of the tags where they have prices written

for every currency. They also have another tag for sizes like that. Sadly, I didn't find anything I needed so I returned to the ship to check on Claire and go to tomorrow's port talk.

Claire’s turn. Luckily the ship docked on the startboard size and boy was it a view, especially doing the turn for docking and then looking right into the city. I pulled up the trip advisor app and saw several of the places from my balcony, then I learned there was a castle right beside the ship. Sure didn’t look like a castle, but I still got excited about it. So, Dr called this evening. My numbers only slightly improved but he is letting me out as long as I’m masked around anyone. Since I was before, it’s not a problem. Susan and I will do our best to avoid folk but it will sure be nice to be out in the town and hanging with Susan for the day. I’m assuming I’ll be in this separate room again tomorrow night. I’m sure they will tell me if I need to move but I want to make sure we are both safe and

I could see this sand stone house (a bit) from the ship. It was the richest man's house. Shops on first floor, they lived on 2nd floor with large windows, then servants quarters above
